International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame www.IMSHOF.org was established in 1971 (with Induction classes named back to 1963) to recognize marathon swimmers and contributors throughout the world

International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF) is an affiliate organization to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, established in 1971 (with Inductee Classes named back to 1963) to recognize the marathon swimmers and contributors throughout the world and governed by an international selection committee of marathon swimming experts. It recognizes the world’s most successful swimmers in competitive races, individuals for their solo swim exploits around the world plus contributors to the sport (administrators, coaches, pilots, organizations, etc.) . It is a non-profit educational sports hall of fame devoted to marathon swimming and is dedicated to promoting the athletes, coaches, administrators, pilots, reporters, volunteers, organizations, race directors and associations affiliated with marathon swimming. It immortalizes online the achievements and contributions of those who have distinguished themselves in this sport. The International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF) is an educational organization and registered non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote the exploits and history of marathon swimming. The International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame is an online virtual shrine dedicated to the history, memory, and recognition of the accomplished swimmers (Honour Swimmers) and Honour Contributors (Coaches, Administrators, Pilots and Organizations involved in marathon swimming around the world, whose lives and accomplishments serve to inspire, educate, and be role models for all those who participate in the sport. All images are sourced from IMSHOF Induction & Awards Ceremonies, individuals and marathon Organizations, Facebook, other social media vehicles, and the internet for non-profit, educational purposes. History - another year of North Channel swimming - AND

Honoree Alison Streeter, MBE was the first to swim the North Channel from Scotland to Northern Ireland in 1989 (10:04) and bettered her speed in 1997 (10:02:12) – a record which still holds in 2026 (and beyond).

Annual shout out to:

Honor Organization, Serpentine Swimming Club, based in Hyde Park, London, founded in 1864.
The club has a historic focus on the English Channel (between 1957 and 2024, 85 members completed solos).
The first female and male swimmers to complete 3-way English Channel crossings, were club members as were IMSHOF Honorees: Alison Streeter, MBE (43 crossings; Jon Erikson (11 crossings), and Kevin Murphy (34 solos).

Note the global spread of swimmers

🌊🗽 NYOW 2026 — by the numbers 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️
We knew it was a busy season, but looking back at everything that happened, we’re pretty amazed by what this community pulled off.

🌎 139 different swimmers took part in 20 Bridges, Ederle-Burke, 40 Bridges Reverse or an 8 Bridges stage marathon swim
🌍 24 countries represented
📅 47 marathon swim days on the water
📅 2 days of mass participant events with 300 entrants (Little Red Lite and Lake Minnewaska Silver Jubilee Swim)
🌉 124 swimmers took on 20 Bridges
✅ 99 completed solo and tandem 20 Bridges swims
🤝 6 relay teams completed the swim
💪 95.1% success rate for 20 Bridges solo/tandem attempts

And beyond Manhattan:
🗽 6 Ederle-Burke attempts
🌉 5 x 8 Bridges stage attempts (with one more swim to come)
🌊 8 DNFs across 20 Bridges, Ederle-Burke, 8 Bridges, and 40 Bridges Reverse - a good reminder of how unpredictable marathon swimming can be.

Our swimmers ranged from 13 to 70 years old, with a median age of 45.
⚡ Fastest 20 Bridges: 5:32:14 (Andreas Waschburger’s new course record - counter clockwise direction)
⚡ Fastest 20 Bridges Reverse: 10:10:25 (Joe Zemaitis new course record - clockwise direction)

And the numbers behind the swimmers are just as impressive.
Across these events, swimmers were supported by:
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 149 personal crew members
👀 34 observers
🛶 18 kayakers
🚤 12 safety boaters

That is a lot of early mornings and late nights, tide calculations, weather watching, kayaks launched, lunches packed, sunscreen applied, radio transmissions, boat rides, keeping pace beside a swimmer for hours, handing over feeds, paperwork, patience, some unforgettable views of the city, and the joy of watching a swimmer reach a goal they have worked so hard toward and dreamed about for so long.

There were fast swims and slow swims, teenagers and septuagenarians, first attempts and second chances, calm days and stormy ones (including rain dates). Somehow, we kept putting swimmers in the water all season long.

We are pretty proud of what this community accomplished in 2026. 💙

Thank you to every swimmer 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️, crew member 🤝, observer 👀, kayaker 🛶, boater 🚤, volunteer 🙌, and supporter 💙 who made it happen.
