January 12th... a “Day of Despair” turned into a “Day of Hope”.
11 years ago today, a devastating earthquake brought destruction, death, fear and desperation to a country that was already facing many challenges, Haiti. At that time, Angel Wings International had been serving the medical needs of the community of Jacmel for 2 years.
After the earthquake, we took our services to a whole new level and launched a mission to not only provide medical care, but to also open a full time medical clinc. Today marks the 4th anniversary of the grand opening of the clinic!
This past year has been the busiest year yet. We have logged over 15,000 patient visits, added an OBGYN department, delivery unit and surgical unit. We delivered 42 babies, performed dozens of c-sections, removed enlarged cyst, treated skull fractures, severe lacerations, life threatening infections, and severe burn patients.
This little dream of a clinic has turned into a big impact on the community and people of the country we serve and we are very proud of our dedicated staff, volunteers and donors.
AWI is developing a strong presence, not just in Jacmel, but through the country of Haiti itself. The clinic and it’s level of services have been recognized by many as one of the most developed and advanced clinic in the region.
We have had many challenges over the years and this year brought many unique challenges of its own both due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the great need in general. To name just a few... huge expenses due to PPE needs, meds and supplies, power outages, lack of fuel for the generator, and balancing all this with an expanded medical staff and maintaining enough funds to cover their pay... no matter the challenge, our volunteers and donors have always come through to help make things happen and we are so hopeful and grateful for all the ongoing support and encouragement.
Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers over the years and the thousands of donors that help keep this dream and mission going. A big special thank you to our monthly donors, your constant and ongoing support has helped to ensure our doors stay open and our patients continue receiving care.
Today (the date of the earthquake and the date of the grand opening of the clinic) was an overwhelming day for us at the clinic, but it was just the way it should be as... our mission has been to turn the date of the earthquake, January 12th, from a “Day of DESPAIR” to a “Day of HOPE” and together we have all done that!
Thank you to all of our supporters, volunteers, donors, fans, and staff. You are too many to mention, but you know who you are.
Thank YOU!
