OIC of South Florida (OIC-SFL) is a community-based workforce development, education and training organization that prepares our youth and adult participants to lead responsible & productive lives with holistic high-quality and comprehensive life skills development, fundamental education, superior skills-based training and employment readiness services. We assist our students with overcoming the barriers they face at some of the most crucial transition points in their lives: young adults facing important crossroads, and adults challenged by unemployment, re-employment, underemployment and/or release from incarceration. Participants learn leadership & coping skills, earn relevant vocational credentials and also learn how to be capable, reliable and self-sufficient employees with strong work ethics.

Workforce Development Month may be coming to a close, but the work continues.

This month, the 2026 Middle Class Summit brought leaders together to talk about the future of work, economic mobility, employer needs, and the pathways people need to build stronger careers.

Those conversations connect directly to the work OIC of South Florida carries forward every day through training, career preparation, employment opportunities, and partnerships across our community.

Because workforce development is more than one program or one month.
It’s the ongoing work of connecting people to opportunity and helping communities move forward.

Workforce development is about more than completing a class.

It’s about building practical skills, gaining confidence, and preparing for the opportunities that come next.

This month, participants in OIC of South Florida’s Carpentry Training completed their program after hands-on instruction, technical learning, and workforce preparation. Along the way, they developed new skills, reflected on their progress, and began looking ahead to their next career goals.

As Workforce Development Month comes to a close, we’re highlighting what that work looks like in action.

Training is the starting point. The goal is opportunity.

Sometimes the hardest part of moving forward is getting the first opportunity.
OIC Strategic Integration helps bridge that gap by creating paid employment opportunities for participants who are building toward long-term career stability.

Through OIC-Si, participants can earn meaningful income while gaining real work experience, strengthening professional skills, and continuing to prepare for what comes next.

For many participants, that income and experience can provide greater stability while they work toward their next career step.

And every new hire is worth celebrating.

After orientation and training, new team members receive their blue shirts, the bell rings, and OIC staff comes together to celebrate another participant prepared to step into the workforce.

Because workforce development is more than training.

It’s creating a place to begin.

Two days. 400+ leaders. One shared future.

Day 2 of the bi-annual 2026 Middle Class Summit continued what we started on Day 1, bringing even more conversations, perspectives, and opportunities to connect around the future of economic mobility and the middle class.

As our two days together came to a close, one thing was clear: the conversations may have started at the Summit, but the work continues beyond the room. The connections made, ideas exchanged, and solutions explored are part of how we continue creating pathways to opportunity and strengthening communities across South Florida.

Day 1 of the bi-annual 2026 Middle Class Summit brought leaders, ideas, and perspectives from across business, government, education, workforce development, and our communities together around one shared purpose: strengthening economic mobility and expanding pathways to the middle class.

From the conversations on stage to the connections happening throughout the room, Day 1 was about exchanging ideas, challenging perspectives, and exploring what becomes possible when different sectors and experiences come together.

To every attendee who showed up ready to engage and connect, every speaker and panelist who shared their expertise, and every sponsor and partner who helped make it possible, THANK YOU for setting the tone for an incredible Summit.
