Today, September 29, marks a momentous occasion - the 242nd anniversary of the charter being granted to African Lodge No. 459. As Worshipful Master of New Era Masonic Lodge No. 69 Prince Hall, I stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. This charter laid the foundation for our fraternity, and we're proud to carry on the legacy. To my Brothers, I offer heartfelt congratulations and gratitude as we celebrate our heritage and the enduring bonds of brotherhood. SMIB

We Remember The Four Little Girls

Today New Era Lodge No. 69 /G\ pauses to remember one of the darkest days in America, when a bomb at 16th Street Baptist Church tried to silence the future, and instead awakened a nation.

Our Junior Warden, Rev James Bell, knew that future by name. He was friends with all four girls who were taken. Just two weeks before the bomb fell, his piano recital echoed through that same sanctuary.

Long before he wore our Square and Compass, Brother Bell was already doing the work of the Craft — building community, lifting voices, keeping memory alive.

Five years ago, for the 60th Anniversary, he assisted New Era to bring us together for sacred remembrance special thanks to our community partner Sunshine Cathedral — survivors, including the organist from that Sunday morning, historians, and friends of the girls, gathered for community conversation and a screening of Spike Lee's 4 Little Girls.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget the bomb that helped change America.

To sit in the West it takes a special person, and this brother exemplifies every trait of what it truly means to be “My Brothers Keeper”.

A STATEMENT FROM THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER
New Era Masonic Lodge No. 69 - Prince Hall

On this day in 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till was lynched in Mississippi. On this same date in 1963, thousands marched on Washington demanding equality for ALL.

Decades later, we are still fighting for that same equality.

Dr. King's dream is still deferred. From the banning of Black Studies in our public schools, to the senseless murders of our Black Trans and Q***r siblings, to the erasure of LGBTQ+ history — we are in a State of Emergency. Injustice has not died, it has simply changed its uniform.

Today, the Officers and Members of New Era Masonic Lodge No. 69 pause to honor Emmett Till and the foot soldiers of the March on Washington, and to remind our community that the work is not over.

I charge every Mason, Eastern Star, Greek letter organization, and civic body to take a stand. Not just to make your voice heard, but your presence felt. As Prince Hall took a stand in 1775, so must we — until change comes.

For we are obligated to shine a Light even in the darkness of times.

Yours in Service,

Ederick E. Johnson
Worshipful Master
New Era Masonic Lodge No. 69, Prince Hall
