Voices for Children of Broward County advocates and supports children in foster care.

Since 2011, Voices for Children of Broward County has served more than 4,000 young people through our programs. Voices is committed to leveling the playing field so that every child in the child welfare system has his or her basic life needs, essential education, and social experiences every child deserves, a Guardian ad Litem volunteer to help guide his or her safe passage through the child welfare system, opportunities in which to prosper, and a successful journey into a healthy, stable, thriving life as an adult. Voices focuses exclusively on providing gap funding and programs solely for children who have an open and active dependency case in Broward County. Through our innovative programs and services – School Break Food Program; Dream BIG Days; financial resources for emergency and normalcy needs; and Guardian ad Litem volunteer recruitment, retention, and training programs – Voices for Children of Broward County works to provide the necessary resources and tools to lead a healthy, safe, and happy childhood.

Mystery solved! 🔎🐾 Last night’s Scooby-Doo Voices in Action was such a fun one.
⠀
Together, we packed more than 150 Mystery Bags filled with Halloween surprises for our upcoming Scooby-Doo’s Spooktacular Mystery Pickup for the children we serve.
⠀
There was plenty of packing, a little mystery-solving, and a whole lot of teamwork as we got everything ready for the big day. These behind-the-scenes moments are part of what makes Voices in Action so special, giving our community a closer look at the work we do and a chance to be part of it firsthand.

A Scooby-sized thank you to everyone who joined the Mystery Inc. crew for the night! 🐾 Your time, energy, and enthusiasm made the evening so much fun, and we’re so grateful you helped us get ready for the mystery ahead. 💙

Our impact isn't just measured by how many children we reach, but by how we show up when they need us most.

At Voices, we step in where the gaps exist. We respond to immediate needs, remove barriers, create opportunities, and provide the follow-through that helps children and families keep moving forward.

Sometimes it means responding quickly so a child has what they need, when they need it. Sometimes it means making sure a child has the same experiences as their peers. Sometimes it means opening a door to a new opportunity, helping a family find the right resource, or simply making sure someone isn't lost in the process.

That is what being a safety net looks like.

This year's impact reflects thousands of moments when a need was identified and Voices was there to help meet it. And as we continue to grow, so does our commitment to showing up with care, dignity, and urgency for the children and families we serve. 💙💚🧡

October 8 is DAF Day, a national day that encourages people with Donor-Advised Funds to use those charitable dollars to support the causes and organizations that matter to them.

At Voices, we know that sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference.

A car seat can remove a barrier and help a child get where they need to go safely. A teddy bear can bring comfort during an uncertain moment. A Dream BIG Day can give a child the chance to try something new, build confidence, and simply enjoy being a kid. And a need identified in court can begin a chain of advocacy, coordination, resources, and follow-through that helps a child move closer to stability and permanency.

That is what your giving makes possible.

As we begin thinking about year-end giving, DAF Day is also a great reminder that there are many ways to make an impact. In addition to recommending a grant through your Donor-Advised Fund, Voices can also accept gifts of appreciated stock and other securities.

However you choose to give, your generosity helps us meet immediate needs, remove barriers, create opportunities, provide follow-through, and protect childhood for the children we serve. 💙💚🧡

We recently held our final Youth System Organizers of Broward (YSO) meeting, bringing an important season of work to a close.

YSO brings together young adults with lived experience in the child welfare system and system professionals to make sure youth voice is part of the conversations and decisions that shape the system.

Over the past year, these incredible young adults facilitated conversations with youth in care, gathering honest feedback about what is working, where gaps still exist, and what youth need from the systems that serve them.

Our final meeting gave us the opportunity to reflect on what we heard and begin thinking about how to share those findings with our community, so youth voice can continue to inform the work ahead.

It has truly been a privilege to serve with this group and learn from such thoughtful, passionate young adults and community leaders. 💙

This time, we’re getting ready for Halloween with a Scooby-Doo Mystery Packing Party! 🔎🐾

Join us on Wednesday, October 14 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. for a fun, hands-on evening helping us prepare for our Halloween Pop-Up for the children we serve. You’ll help us pack our Scooby-Doo Mystery Bags and get a behind-the-scenes look at how we bring these special experiences to life.

Voices in Action is all about bringing our community closer to the work we do and giving you a chance to be part of it firsthand.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, recognize the signs of abuse, stand with survivors, and remind our community that domestic violence is never something anyone should have to face alone.

At Voices, we are part of the safety net for children and families impacted by domestic violence. We work alongside caregivers, domestic violence professionals, the courts, and community partners to help survivors and their children access the practical support they need, from food and clothing to car seats, emergency essentials, and other resources that can help create safety and stability.

Because supporting survivors also means helping protect the children whose lives are impacted by domestic violence.

Sometimes the simplest things make a holiday feel special.

A favorite meal. A full table. Time together. And for a child in foster care, the chance to simply enjoy Thanksgiving without worrying about what comes next.

Our Thanksgiving Food Drive is helping provide holiday meals for children in foster care and the families caring for them.

We are collecting non-perishable Thanksgiving food items and Publix gift cards through November 13.

Such a great night celebrating the launch of Charitable, the newest magazine from Lifestyle Media Group, highlighting nonprofits, philanthropists, and community leaders making an impact across South Florida!

A special thank you to Sunness Supper Club and owner Michael for hosting the launch. It was a pleasure to meet Michael and spend the evening surrounded by so many friends and familiar faces from our community.

A new chapter of leadership is beginning at Voices, and it gives us the perfect opportunity to celebrate where we’ve been and where we’re headed.

After five incredible years as our Board Chair, we are filled with gratitude as we thank Rich Pruitt for his leadership, friendship, and dedication to Voices.

Rich has been so much more than a Board Chair. He has been an incredible leader, partner, friend, and champion for our mission. He has been there through so much of our growth, always willing to listen, offer guidance, open a door, or simply ask, “What do you need?” His leadership has helped shape the organization we are today, and we are so grateful for the time, heart, and commitment he has given to Voices.

Rich, thank you for believing in Voices, for always showing up, and for helping us grow into the organization we are today. We are incredibly lucky to have had you leading our Board for the past five years.

And as we celebrate Rich, we’re also excited to welcome Carlos DeBrito as our new Board Chair! Carlos brings tremendous energy, new ideas, and a real passion for our work. We’re looking forward to this next chapter and everything we’ll accomplish together.
