One minute you’re new to the sector.

The next, you’re casually saying, “The ED needs the KPI update from the CRM before the BOD meeting.”

And somehow everyone in the meeting just nods like this is a normal sentence.

Drop the most unhinged nonprofit acronym you’ve had to decode in the comments.

Bonus points if it sounds fake but is absolutely real 😂

You apply for one role, read the job description, and think, “great, this seems clear.”

Then you start the job and realize half of what you actually do was never mentioned, three parts were wildly understated, and “other duties as assigned” was doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Nonprofit job descriptions are not always inaccurate.

Some orgs say they want fresh thinking, new energy, and better systems.

Then someone suggests changing one process, one event, or one program and suddenly everyone is emotionally attached to a workflow that has been underperforming since 2017.

Not everything old is bad.

But “we’ve always done it this way” is not a strategy.

It's often just fear in sensible shoes.

The mission doesn't get stronger when you stay stuck.

Some events are worth it.

Some are just a very expensive way to prove your staff can survive on adrenaline, donated wine, and one unhinged event planning spreadsheet.

If your signature fundraiser nets less money than it costs, drains your team for six months, and still gets called “a huge success,” that's not worth it.
