Middle River Terrace Neighbors,

The coming Wednesday evening may be your final opportunity to influence city officials and make a generational impact. We are in a battle to keep high-rise buildings off NE 13th Street, and we need everyone to rally around MRTNA.

Each available individual can help! How? Join us at the Planning and Zoning Board meeting to prove this neighborhood values reasonable development that reflects the current character of our neighborhood. Be there in person to raise your hand when Troy Liggett, our MRTNA President, asks for a show of hands of all Middle River Terrace residents in attendance who oppose high-rise buildings and favor a "main street" approach to reasonable, mid-rise (max) redevelopment of NE 13th Street. This may be our last and best chance to use our individual and collective voice.

Please join me, the MRTNA President, MRTNA members and our allies at this Wednesday's Planning and Zoning Board meeting. Public comment on the City's proposal to rezone the NE 13th Street corridor is first item on the agenda. Come fill the seats and raise your hand to show the Board Middle River is not the neighborhood for high-rise buildings or runaway development. As a 20-year resident of Middle River Terrace, I see this as pivotal moment after years of advocacy. Show up for preserve our neighborhood’s character for a better today and tomorrow for Middle River Terrace.

Hello, Middle River Terrace neighbors!

I write to ask for your input on the selection of the artist to design the new sculpture for the NE 13th Street roundabout in Middle River Terrace. The new sculpture will replace the Unity Beacon. Below is a link to the artist submissions and three ways that you can provide input.

The city received applications from 62 artists -- some local and others from across the country. This Monday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m., the Public Arts and Placemaking Advisory Board will meet to select three artists who will each receive a stipend to submit detailed designs for further consideration. You can see all 62 artist submissions by clicking https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/0kce4dpgxz9gq4o4ezz6q/APoy4wOmc9OYhAoXpxrIJtU?rlkey=sxba4np3t46xyo8t4zux590r9&st=4lpchchs&dl=0

The Advisory Board met on August 18 for an initial review of the artists. The seven members of the Advisory Board selected 17 favorites. When you click on the link and then click the folder Artist Submissions, the Advisory Board's initial favorites are numbered 1 to 17. Note that artists were not asked to submit a specific design, but could provide a general overview of their work. Artist 2 (Joshua Titkin) received the second most votes with TALU - pictured attached.

I urge you to submit your opinions on any or all of the 62 submissions. You can share your comments with the Advisory Board by:

* Attending Monday's meeting at 1:00 p.m. to speak at the Advisory Board meeting. The meeting will be held at 101 NE 3rd Avenue, Room 1100.

* Email your comments to the Advisory Board at [email protected]. If you're unable to attend the meeting, you must submit written comments before Monday at 1:00 p.m. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support in making Middle River Terrace an even better place to live and work!

Your neighbor,
Troy Liggett
