On June 19, 1865 – two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed – federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and enforced the historic order that freed enslaved people. Juneteenth is our national holiday commemorating the end of slavery. It’s a time to celebrate freedom for all, to reflect on our nation’s history and to honor the millions of people in America who endured the injustice of slavery.

🌈💜Celebrating Pride Month 🌈💜A special Pride Month exhibition at the Broward County Main Library in downtown Fort Lauderdale includes highlights of the Community Foundation of Broward’s more than 40 years of support for the LGBTQ+ community. This exhibition, produced by the Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library, runs through June 30. It’s a follow-up to a short film, produced in commemoration of the Community Foundation’s 40th anniversary, that explores how local philanthropy helps overcome stigma, elevates activists and fuels life-changing programs.

💜Thank you to the City of Pompano Beach City Commission for welcoming the Community Foundation of Broward team to share information about the impact of philanthropy in the city and how our municipal collaborations are growing support for residents across Broward County.

💜The new “Lead with Love” mural in Pompano Beach and the expansion of our “Health and Resource Hub” in the city are two examples of how Community Foundation-led collaborations and support are helping Pompano Beach residents.

👉Another way we can bolster municipal support is by partnering with cities and philanthropists to create endowed charitable funds dedicated to serving local communities. Endowed funds at the Community Foundation ensure permanent, sustainable support for initiatives that transform lives and uplift communities. Oakland Park, Lauderhill and Tamarac are among the local communities that have partnered with the Community Foundation to create endowed funds that help shape a brighter future for the people they serve.

🌟 Exciting news: the Florida Nonprofit Alliance has launched the first statewide nonprofit Compensation and Benefits Survey.

📃 This survey will support the development of a free statewide report and interactive dashboard that provide Florida-specific data on nonprofit compensation, benefits, staffing, and workforce practices. The findings will help nonprofit organizations benchmark compensation and benefits, strengthen hiring and retention strategies, inform budgeting and organizational planning, demonstrate sound management to funders and stakeholders, and support executive compensation reviews to ensure competitive practices and legal compliance.

☑️ Organizations should submit one survey response per organization, completed by a CEO, CFO, HR professional, or other staff member with access to compensation and benefits data. The survey includes up to 138 questions and a supplemental employee data spreadsheet, and responses can be saved and completed over multiple sessions during the survey period.

💜Kudos to Do Good 4-1 for enabling Parkway Middle School students to learn about computers and coding with hands-on lessons that explore science, technology, engineering and math in fun, engaging ways. Students also benefited from educational trips to tour college campuses and companies such as Cisco and Microsoft, where they learned more about higher education and future career paths.

💜 Yesterday, a score of nonprofit CEOs, executive directors, board members, and leadership teams from across Broward County gathered at the Community Foundation of Broward to explore the trends, challenges, and opportunities shaping our sector’s future.

💜 Through "Florida Nonprofits by the Numbers," our Broward Center for Nonprofit Excellence shared new insights on the economic impact of Florida’s nonprofit community, emerging statewide trends, policy developments from the 2026 legislative session, and what these shifts mean for organizational strategy, governance, and sustainability.

💜 A special thank you to Leah Donelan McDermott of the Florida Nonprofit Alliance for sharing details about the launch of Florida’s statewide nonprofit salary survey, now open through July 14. Participants were encouraged to complete the survey and spread the word so we can build a strong dataset that will ultimately support the creation of the first-ever Broward County-specific nonprofit salary dashboard. Having local compensation data will be an important resource for organizations working to attract, retain, and support talented nonprofit professionals.

💜🎨A new “Lead with Love” mural is already turning heads in Tamarac! Thank you to everyone who joined us on June 1 to paint the finishing touches on the colorful new mural at the Tamarac Community Center on Commercial Boulevard.

👉This is the sixth installment of a public arts initiative fostering inspiration and unity through nine murals spreading across Broward. It’s part of the Community Foundation of Broward’s collaboration with Business for the Arts of Broward and visionary artist Cey Adams to spread a message of love and unity across Broward County.
