Funding Arts Broward

Funding Arts Broward Funding Arts Broward (FAB) is one of South Florida’s few community-powered funders dedicated solely to the arts. Funding Arts Broward, Inc. All FAB!

Through grantmaking, membership, and advocacy, we connect people, invest in creativity, and strengthen our cultural community. (FAB!) was formed in the summer of 2003, by a group of dynamic women who came together to form Funding Arts Broward (FAB!) in response to a growing concern about significant cuts in government funding to the arts. Our mission is to enrich the Broward County arts community

by funding Broward County based visual and performing arts programs that meet eligibility requirements and present high quality programs to the public. FAB!’s goal is to create a sustainable, expanding pool of monies to award as grants to eligible non-profit arts organizations. programs are carried out by our volunteer members. To educate the members and the greater community, FAB! hosts quarterly luncheons for members and their guests. Luncheons feature informative panel presentations on a wide spectrum of topics, trends, and issues related to the visual and performing arts. These popular luncheons give members an opportunity to come together, share their knowledge, and stay active in the local arts scene. members share a commitment to support the needs of the local arts community. They share a common belief that art and culture in contemporary society transcend our differences and bring us together in celebration of the human spirit. A competitive annual grant process awards grants to Broward County-based nonprofit, visual, music, and performing arts organizations that present high quality programs and meet the FAB eligibility requirements. Grant finalists are selected through a rigorous screening process by member volunteer screening teams. Screening committees are organized according to disciplines of visual, music, and performing art. Our organization provides professional training in grant evaluation to its members. Grant recipients are determined by a majority vote of the members by written ballot. Quarterly meetings showcase new trends, issues and developments related to the visual, music, and performing arts.

FAB is proud to support a FAB Grantee in the powerful production of Light Switch at Island City Stage—and this is your last weekend to see it!

What if your favorite love story never included someone like you?

Light Switch by Dave Osmundsen tells the story of Henry Sullivan, a 27-year-old gay autistic man whose love of classic British romance novels has shaped his view of the world. When he meets Joseph, Henry embarks on a journey through love, heartbreak, identity, and acceptance, discovering that the most meaningful love stories are often the ones we write ourselves.

Funny, heartfelt, and deeply moving, Light Switch shines a light on the universal desire for connection while celebrating voices and experiences that deserve to be seen and heard.

FAB is honored to support arts organizations and artists who bring inclusive, thought-provoking work to our community, and we encourage our supporters to join us in celebrating this outstanding production.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT: A Word From Renee Johnson

We are incredibly grateful to have had the support of Renee Johnson, Wealth Advisor and Senior Vice President at Truist Wealth, as a major sponsor at this year's FAB Grant Awards at the Pompano Beach Cultural Center!

Renee took a moment to address the room, beautifully capturing the spirit of why we gather, why we give, and why the arts matter. We are pleased to share her inspiring remarks below:

"I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." — Albert Einstein

"Art curiosity is not about having answers; it's about giving yourself permission to wonder. When we stand in front of a painting, hear a piece of music, or read a line that lingers, we're being invited. Invited to see the world through someone else's eyes—and sometimes, to see ourselves more clearly.

In a world that rewards speed, art asks for attention. In a world that values certainty, art celebrates ambiguity. It reminds us that complexity can be beautiful and that different interpretations can coexist.

Being art curious also means staying open—to new voices, unfamiliar cultures, and perspectives that challenge our own. When we lean into that curiosity, art becomes more than decoration or entertainment. It becomes connection. It becomes dialogue. It becomes a bridge.

Because when we stay curious, we stay human. And when we stay open to art, we stay open to each other."

— Renee Johnson, Truist Wealth

Thank you, Renee, for your commitment to supporting local artists and strengthening our community through the power of creativity. We are grateful for your support and shared belief in the transformative role of the arts.

A New Chapter at Funding Arts Broward

I'm honored to step into the role of Board Chair for Funding Arts Broward—an organization powered by people who believe the arts strengthen our community, enrich lives, and bring us together.

FAB is more than a funding organization. It's a community—and there's always room for more voices at the table.

As we look ahead, here's what's on the horizon:

A monthly newsletter feature sharing key updates and decisions from our board meetings, keeping everyone connected to FAB's momentum.

Just One Campaign: Our membership initiative focused on growing our reach through personal connection and shared passion for the arts. Every new member expands our collective voice in Broward County.

Focus Groups This Summer: We'll be gathering input to guide our strategic planning and goals for 2026–2027. Your voice matters.

Key Priorities: Strengthening engagement, expanding visibility, supporting sustainability, and championing the vibrant arts community that makes Broward extraordinary.

Our Annual Meeting reinforced what makes FAB special: thoughtful, passionate members who show up and shape the future. The ideas shared there are already informing our path forward.

If you love the arts and want to be part of something meaningful in Broward County, we'd love to welcome you. Joining FAB means lending your voice, your energy, and your belief in what the arts can do—for our neighbors, our neighborhoods, and our shared cultural landscape.

The future of FAB will be shaped not just by its board, but by the energy and engagement of every supporter—new and longtime members alike.

Thank you for believing in the transformative power of the arts. I can't wait to see what we accomplish together.
