New Parking Regulations on Galt Ocean Drive
There are new parking regulations in force at this time in the on-street pullover areas along Galt Ocean Drive. New signage has been posted in these areas. Violators will be ticketed and/or towed by Fort Lauderdale Parking Enforcement. The new regulations are described below.
Parking is now limited as follows in the on-street pullover areas:
• Commercial Vehicles Only – 3-hour maximum parking –
Mon – Sat from 8 am to 6 pm.
• NO parking Mon – Sat from 6 pm to 8 am
• NO parking Sunday
• No personal vehicles or non-commercial vehicles are allowed to park in these spaces at any time.
• If a building has a delivery that could take longer than 3 hours (such as a move in/move out or a major delivery of materials to the building), the company can get a parking extension from Fort Lauderdale Parking Enforcement prior to the delivery.
• If a building has scheduled a moving van or major building delivery, they should plan to block off the on-street pullover area with orange cones to reserve the space for the delivery vehicle prior to 8 am. Street parking for deliveries can be ticketed by parking enforcement.
The Galt Mile Community Association worked with the city, member associations and businesses to achieve the following:
• Improve street safety during business hours for residents driving and walking on the Galt;
• Provide off-street parking for commercial vehicles loading and unloading;
• Curtail individuals from using these spaces as their “personal parking places,” while blocking usage by commercial vehicles, and creating unsafe conditions on the street while exiting or entering buildings, and,
• Create a residential atmosphere during evening hours and Sundays.
We understand during the week the Galt is a busy commercial area: delivery trucks; commercial vendors working on property; trash bins placed for pickup; and building deliveries. No building has a loading dock – so the pullover areas become our loading docks. However, after business hours, we want to return the Galt to a safe residential neighborhood that residents can enjoy – a neighborhood that is “residential-quiet. “
Galt Ocean Drive Improvements
On the drawing board are the Galt Ocean Drive Safety Improvements, hopefully starting this fall. This $5 million project includes resurfacing the street, new curbs and sidewalks (with more walkability), improved lighting, added landscaping, and safety features to slow down traffic (no, we are not adding speed bumps or speed tables). We have been working on this project since 2019 – getting the funding (when the Galt was improved in 1996, residents paid for the project). All the funding is coming from the city and state. Design and procurement move slowly in the city and the last hurdle will be commission approval of the bid.
