Florida Marine Aquarium Society

Florida Marine Aquarium Society Supporting the marine aquaria hobby through education and conservation. South Plantation High School, located at 1300 Paladin Way, Plantation, FL.

The Florida Marine Aquarium Society (FMAS) began in 1955 as a small group of hobbyists in love with saltwater fish. FMAS is the oldest and currently one of the largest Marine Aquarium Societies in existence. Through the years, it has developed into an organization with an elected Board of Directors and a membership numbering well over 300. Our general meetings are held at the Environmental Science

& Everglades Restoration Magnet Schools a.k.a. The general meetings are open to the public and held at 7:15p.m., the fourth Tuesday of every month (except in the summer months when school is not in session). General meetings consist of an educational portion plus a guest speaker on marine-related topics such as: conservation, safety, collecting fish, breeding etc. FMAS publishes a monthly email newsletter for members which details activities (field trips), items of interest to the Society, informative articles written by Club members, and topics for upcoming meetings. Our library is an educational tool provided for the benefit of our members and contains the latest books, periodicals, and videos on sea life and marine aquariums. These materials are available for home use by all our members. FMAS holds events and meetings throughout the year open to all marine aquarium hobbyists. Who are our members? People like you. We come from all walks of life, all ages, shapes, and sizes. We are united by a common interest in and love of marine life and marine aquariums. If you are interested in learning more come visit a general meeting. Our membership size has no limits and no pre-qualifications. Come visit us - we look forward to meeting you!

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from The Biota Group 🦃

Today we reflect on what we are most thankful for, and at the top of that list is you. Your support as caring aquarists is what makes our work possible. Every coral grown, every fish bred, and every step forward in sustainable aquaculture happens because of people who believe in a brighter future for our oceans.

We are also deeply grateful for our partners, friends, and collaborators who walk beside us, pushing research, innovation, and responsible aquaculture forward. Together we continue to build a future where healthy, hardy, sustainable marine life is the standard!

I am also thankful for all of you who share your stories with us and follow us on social media. It means so much when customers keep us updated on their fish over the years and send photos or videos of their thriving Biota animals. Seeing your tanks grow and your fish mature reminds us why we do what we do.

To our community, partners, and friends, thank you for standing with us as we protect our oceans through aquaculture. We are grateful for every one of you.

💙 What are you thankful for this year?

FMAS publishing Newsletters again! Here's the first one.

We have had some incredible changes take place over the last few months. The FMAS Board, and the FMAS members, all voted and agreed to changes to the FMAS By-Laws at our last meeting on March 9th, 2024 that now allow for any member, under certain circumstances as detailed in the By-Laws, (See the u...

Hi All,
It's looking like we are going for another grow-out adventure. This time it's open to all reefkeepers with the coral species being a durable ultra neon green toadstool lineage. While a tank full of these can be allelopathic (sending out chemicals to hurt things dissimilar genetically), as a standalone in a reef, especially with carbon and/or skimmer, this is a great mixed reef option. Join us at the June 8th (Saterday!) meeting and hear the famous Julian Sprung give expert advice. Then, free corals will be distributed and start weights and measures will be taken for the first 15ish members to sign up( priority to newer members)! We will grow until and likely do a weigh in at the Dec 7 holiday fiesta with the prize being an autographed photo of our president Jeff Turner and more prizes to be revealed soon. Maybe a stanley cup sized huge championship trophy? Happy reefing.
