Today, people are seeking ‘on demand’ spirituality, online and physical communities, gyms, retail experiences and social experiences. As a Jewish community, we are no longer tethered to buildings and brands out of loyalty, but have transitioned to movements with personalization that reflect our values, desires, thoughts and practices. Yet, the one thing that is consistent – people will ALWAYS look

for meaning and connection in Judaism. Many are no longer content to sit in a service for 2 hours and listen to a leader who is not speaking their language. Factoring in membership, outdated ceremonies, and inflexible leadership, clergy and facilitators, people have been seeking out do-it-yourself destination Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and weddings. My Personal Judaism is bringing 100s of independent clergy, educators, b-mitzvah tutors and lifecycle facilitators together under one roof with one purpose – bring Judaism to your digital doorstep. MPJ is an online community that supports and welcomes Jews and Jewish service providers to come together, to be found, to network, to gather and to share and to inspire stronger, deeper connections to our Jewish faith through a supportive network of more personalized ideas. It is a marketplace and learning center, a place for Jews to form groups and subgroups based on their individual preferences, leveraging the power of the internet to connect us in more productive ways to enhance our Jewish connections, and encourage us to be more creative in them.

Many choose to discuss parashat Korach for its challenging depiction of the Earth “swallowing up” Korach and his peers for their opposition to Moses’ and Aaron’s leadership. Though it may not be the most pleasant story, parashat Korach teaches many lessons. Perhaps we can learn how to communicate discontentment with our leaders by not following Korach’s negative example; we might also internally reflect on finding a lesson to learn in everything (even things that might be hard to process). What are some strategies that you use to find the learning and growth in challenging situations?

The Jewish world is changing!

Just a few years ago, Jews joined together solely through physical community. But thanks to technology (and a pandemic!), we have evolved and expanded into the virtual realm for much of our learning and community interactions. We live in an on-demand society: we want what we want, when we want it, where we want it, and HOW we want it. Traditional models still serve a wonderful purpose – but what about those who clearly need other options?

Today, less than one-third of Jews in the United States are affiliated with a traditional house of worship.[1] This means over two-thirds of the Jewish population does not have a spiritual home.

As a successful spiritual leader serving the Unaffiliated Jewish population for over 20 years, Cantor Debbi Ballard learned what today’s Unaffiliated Jewish person and family is seeking: quality, meaningful engagement, offered by a POSITIVE and welcoming outstretched hand – without conditions, without requirements, simply from someone who says – YES, your Jewish spiritual needs are valid, and YES, we can make it happen!

This is critical in Judaism, today more than ever. The religiously “disconnected” population is growing exponentially, but people still want access to resources, community, and educational content because they highly value their Jewish foundation. They simply choose resources that accept their own personal style of Judaism: cultural, not religious; non-observant, but IMPORTANT nonetheless.

Debbi went in search of an all encompassing digital resource where someone could go to find all of this amazing information, but it did not exist.

So she created it!
