BHTC The Broward Human Trafficking Coalition is the lead agency in Broward County that is committed to fighting human trafficking. WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?

As defined in the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, the legal definition of “severe forms of trafficking in persons” is:

a) s*x trafficking in which a commercial s*x act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age; or b) the recruitment, harboring,
transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for

labor or services, through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bo***ge, or slavery. At the BHTC, our passion is to bring awareness, education and action in order to fight the heinous crime of human trafficking. Through our committees, speakers and outreach activities, we are able to make a difference in our community.

I spent the last two days in a in-depth training seminar on "Responding to Human Trafficking in Broward County" in Fort Lauderdale.

Thank you to Rebecca Bender
and Jane Anderson for sharing your expertise and insight as we work together to make our community a safer place for all.

Yesterday morning the Broward Human Trafficking Coalition joined CSC Broward, fellow community leaders, law enforcement, and elected officials for a press conference announcing the rollout of a multi-agency partnership, led by LifeNet4Families, that will distribute 400,000 free Child ID Kits to families across South Florida.

During the press conference, I emphasized the importance of prevention, preparedness, and providing families with the tools they need to protect their children.

These free kits allow parents and caregivers to document each child's fingerprints, DNA, photograph, and physical description, information that can be shared with law enforcement if a child ever goes missing, and every second counts.

Together with our partners, we are taking proactive steps to strengthen child safety and community preparedness for children and families.

📦 To request your free Child ID Kit, visit LifeNet4Families at ln4f.org.

💙 Protecting children starts with awareness, collaboration, and action.

BHTC was honored to partner with Global Ties Miami again to coordinate, host and facilitate an informative and engaging conversation with delegates from Iraq. This was a meaningful opportunity to facilitate a meaningful exchange between Florida practitioners and Iraqi delegates.

Today we shared practical lessons learned from Florida’s multidisciplinary response to human trafficking. Our discussion focused on offender accountability, the court process and protecting victims from being criminalized for crimes committed as a direct result of their exploitation.

Nine years ago today Sophie vanished off the streets of Broward County. She was 15 years old. Her family still searches and her family still hopes.

The 15-year-old vanished from Fort Lauderdale on May 20, 2017.

We would like to thank all of the South Florida human trafficking coalitions and task forces that collaborated on today’s special virtual event! Thank you for the work each of you do in order to make South Florida a place where it is harder for human trafficking to thrive! From the Treasure Coast counties, down to Miami-Dade/Monroe County, we are honored to be a part of this united front to end human trafficking!

If you are looking to get involved with this issue, we recommend getting connected with your local collation or task force and start attending their meetings!

HTCPB’s next meeting will be June 10th at 10am on Zoom (signup on our website to attend).
