Drowning can happen to great swimmers too, knowledge is power!

The death of former NC State swimmer and assistant coach Jack Roney should serve as a wake-up call for the entire swimming community.

The UHBP Board of Directors is calling on leaders across competitive swimming and aquatics to examine how underwater hypoxic blackout is taught and what more must be done to protect swimmers.

Jack was an accomplished Division I athlete and coach. Yet his death while practicing extended underwater breath-holding exposes a critical gap between the safety information that exists and what swimmers and coaches actually know.

Awareness alone is not enough.
Education must reach the pool deck.

We urge swimmers, coaches, aquatic professionals, and facilities to educate themselves NOW.

UHB prevention training and certification are available through UHBP for both individuals and facilities.
