Last weekend was BUZZing with excitement! 🚁

cadets from across the country competed in the JROTC National Drone Championship in Columbus, Georgia.

Welcome to ! A pillar of Army JROTC is encouraging cadets to explore their opportunities beyond high school. JROTC is an excellent resume builder and can lead to scholarships for those who choose to pursue post-secondary opportunities like college or vocational school.

Three graduating cadets in Elizabethtown, Kentucky will have some help along their chosen paths, thanks to scholarships from the local Rotary Club. Cadets Donnie Cooper, Christopher Fields, and Gavin Nalley (L to R in the above photo) each received a $500 scholarship from the Elizabethtown Rotary Club at a recent ceremony.

Christopher Fields has been in JROTC for all four years of high school. He plans to study aviation at Eastern Kentucky University, with the hope of one day becoming a commercial airline pilot.

Gavin Nalley plans to study electrical engineering and join his university's ROTC program, hoping to become a commissioned officer someday.

Donnie Cooper has enlisted as an infantryman in the United States Marine Corps, and will soon ship out to basic training.

Congratulations to these scholarship recipients, and best of luck to you in your bright future!

Last week, JROTC cadets competed in the first ever JROTC National Archery Competition. 🏹 Previously, archery competitions have been split between Eastern and Western competitions. This year, cadets from across the country competed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri hoping to crown themselves national champions. 👑

A special congratulations to Cadet Clayton McPherson from Wichita South High School who placed 1st in the 3D Target Individual Championship! 👏

And another round of applause for our teams that brought to the podium with 3rd place finishes!

Congratulations to Instructor retired Sgt. Maj. Ruby Murray, who recently received a 2026 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award from North Carolina Governor Josh Stein.

“Murray exemplifies the pinnacle of volunteer service excellence through her transformative 20+ year commitment to community upliftment,” said Ocie Stroud-Melvin, who nominated her for the award.

Murray is an instructor at South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina, and when she’s not leading her cadets to excellence, she is volunteering to make her community better.

Murray has accumulated more than 10,000 volunteer hours across multiple organizations, including the Fayetteville Sandhill and State Purple Heart Foundation and Operation Turkey, through which she has helped prepare and distribute thousands of meals in Fayetteville.

Murray has won many awards for her service, including the 2021 President's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Through her years of dedicated service, she has exemplified the spirit of JROTC instructors across the country, who develop confident, capable leaders through emphasis on leadership and community responsibility.

Way to go, Sgt. Maj. Murray!
