🦅 While packing up camp, on que, a bald Eagle flew overhead. As if it was bidding farewell to the Troop for a job well done, and a as message to the Scouts to keep souring higher.

We accomplished so much on our trek this past week. We can’t thank the leaders, both youth and adult, for all their efforts to make this trip possible.

We’re beginning our return home to Fort Knox this weekend, we took a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and had a great visit to the Uss Alabama yesterday. The Scouts had the opportunity to dive deeper into WWII history with a tour of USS Alabama (BB-60), USS Drum (Gato-class submarine), aircraft pavilion, tanks, and artillery era pieces.

Throughout the New Orleans’ and USS Alabama Memorial Park visits, accompanied with counselor discussions, the Scouts earned their Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Nation, American Heritage and American Cultures merit badges.

The Troop is on the move again, Wednesday was a short Trip from Galveston, TX via ferry across the Galveston Bay to the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana to visit BSA Swamp Base.

We took a 4 mile canoe trip through the swamp to the “Turtles” to stay overnight. Highlights included a couple gator sightings and a sunset paddle.

The Scouts earned the Oceanography MB studying the waves in Galveston and used plankton nets to identify algae in the swamp.
