I apologize for not being active over the weekend. I was sick and wasn't able to do much but lay in bed with a cold washcloth over my eyes.

Tomorrow, I will post the link to sign up for the first RESET training event. The only information, I require for sign up is name and email. This is so that I know how many participants, I will have and who to email the classroom to.

Let me know in the comments what time work best for everyone, please include your current timezone.

How do we, as individuals, combat those depressive, intrusive, and sometimes suicidal thoughts?

One method is to implement coping strategies. Now there are a lot of ways that we can cope with the stresses of everyday life. Some of these coping strategies are healthy, a lot are not however. I'm going to focus on the healthy options available.

One strategy is to workout. When I say workout, I don't mean you have to goto the gym and lift heavy things or begin running a ridiculous amount of miles. What I mean by working out is doing something active. By getting active our body can begin to release endorphins that improve our minds. Working out is also a distraction from the thoughts in our head. One thing why I recommend working out is my body changes. Now when I look myself in the mirror, I don't see the person that wanted to die, I see someone new, someone who pushes themselves to get a little better each day.

But, maybe working out doesn't help or isn't something you're interested in doing. There are other options available. You could try painting, writing, learn to play an instrument, you can cook, you can help others, or you can just share your struggles with mental health. That's just a few of the strategies available. There are so many strategies that you can try that there is no reason not to try. Find that strategy that works for you, that makes you feel a little bit better about yourself and run with it.

Let me know what your strategy is.

If you want to share your story on how su***de has impacted you, message the page. It's cathartic to tell someone, so please feel free to share.

To those that have commented on previous posts, I would like to apologize for not being able to respond. Facebook has temporarily locked me from being able to comment/reply on my own page. I am working to resolve this with Facebook, but I am reading every comment and will continue to post.

132. Thats the average number of deaths by su***de per day in the United States. If we look at just the numbers in less than 11 minutes there will be another su***de.

This is why we need to shift our thoughts on su***de prevention. We need to shift from hoping that we can intervene in time to get someone help. We need to openly discuss ways to get help early and often. We need to teach and encourage healthy coping strategies. We need to check on our people. Let your friends, your family, your community know that you are there if they need to talk.

What other social media platforms should we have a presence on?

05/30/2023

So we are shooting for a June 17th launch for the first virtual training session of RESET. The first training will be an introduction to RESET and defining what su***de and su***de prevention is. I look forward to all of you attending.

What word or emotion do you associate with su***de?

05/22/2023

What type of content would every be interested while we work on creating the different training programs that will be offered?

Once the training is created, I will offer the materials free and will conduct a virtual training once a month.

One of the cornerstones of a successful su***de prevention program for any organization is teaching and implementing individual safety plans.

A safety plan can include any information that you want and should be customized for the individual. Ideally a safety plan should identify the individuals social support system, potential warning signs and risk factors, and coping strategies.

The social support system is one of the more important aspects of the safety plan. It should include family and/or friends the individual can turn to in a crisis event. It should also include professional resources the individual can contact in the event of an emergency.

The potential warning signs and risk factors is an individual self-assessment that allows others within an organization to know what to look for in terms of behaviors associated with the mental well-being of individual.

The coping strategies should identify healthy ways an individual uses to decompress from the stresses of everyday life. This can be working out, journaling, painting, or getting out in nature.

What other elements can you see incorporated into an individual safety plan?

In a previous post I mentioned what I call the phases to su***de prevention.

The first is the educate and talk phase. During this phase is when open communication about su***de and what resources are available.

The second phase is the intervention phase or the crisis phase. This is when you have identified someone that is suicidal. During crisis it is important to keep an individual safe and get them to emergency help.

The third and final phase is the post-crisis phase. The post-crisis phase varies depending on the element of the crisis. Post-crisis incorporates follow-up care for the person that had a crisis or getting care to those that knew the deceased.
