This photo shoot meant a lot to me. I was looking for a model and Jordan replied, she felt the need to tell me she was "plus size" at size 8. I didn't ask her size but at a past photo shoot she had showed up and the photographer told her she was too fat, too short, and not pretty enough to be a model.
This saddened me and then every time I turn on the TV there is a story about grownups and kids being bullied. I wanted to do a photo shoot to bring attention to this social issue.
These beautiful models volunteered to put themselves out there and vulnerable to bring awareness. Bullying can affect anyone.... Old, young, male or female. It needs to stop.
We need to wash those negative words away that other people have labeled us. We are in control of how we want to be defined. We are beautiful in all our flaws, we are strong, and we deserve to be loved. That starts with loving our self first. Be kind to each other, help build one another up.
I wasn't expecting the roller coaster of emotions of doing this shoot. It was SO hard for me to paint the negative words. I felt horrible, even though they came up with their own words I felt like I was labeling them. It was not a feeling I was expecting. After we painted the positive words on and were taking photos, I was so elated at everyone cheering each other on, yelling praise to each other and encouraging one another. The whole mood changed and you could visibly see the difference in confidence and happiness that was spreading in the group. Why can we not be like that all the time? It was so joyful.
The models were absolutely wonderful to work with. Thanks to Meredith Diane for helping with the shoot. I sincerely hope that these pictures bring up emotions. That you can see the pain that words can cause and you make an effort to lift up others around you and see the joy that you can bring.
