Our amazing Soldiers at the Fort Hood Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU) are advancing hands-on healing! Our troops assembled indoors, away from today's wind advisories, to kick off custom rod building, focusing on crafting and assembling the handle portion of their builds.

Building a custom handle requires care, concentration, and accuracy, from sculpting grips to setting reel seats, and the teamwork in the room was unmatched.

The finest aspect? Each soldier has a purpose when constructing their rod! During the next years kayak fishing season, they will test their finished equipment.

Every cast is another opportunity, every trip is another lesson, and every moment on the water brings him one step close...

Sometimes, all it takes is someone willing to take the time, share a little knowledge, and open the door to a new hobby. Our hope is that this female veteran from the Temple VA will gain the skills and confidence to enjoy fishing on her own and eventually teach her family, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
