The FGHSAA Board of Directors has also selected Valeria “Val” Roberts Ryan, Class of 1948, to receive the 2026 Distinguished Alumnae of the Year Award. Val was part of the original FGHS alumni that created the FGHS Alumni Association and served on the very first Board of Directors. She will be recognized and presented the award at the FGHSAA Rita Pelfrey Memorial Alumni Reception in September.

The FGHSAA Board of Directors is honored to name Herb “Buddy” Wellman, Class of 1965, with the 2026 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award for his longstanding efforts in helping establish the Fort Gay Veterans Association, Veterans Monument, Veterans Park, and dedicated service to the Veterans of the community. The award will be presented at the Rita Pelfrey Memorial Reception in September.

BIG NEWS - The FGHSAA Board of Directors voted on April 18th to change the annual Alumni Banquet to an Alumni Reception. The reception will allow more time to socialize with former classmates and longtime friends and include finger foods instead of a meal. As a result of this change, THE RECEPTION WILL BE FREE FOR ANYONE TO ATTEND. Award presentations will continue be part of the program.

The FGHS Alumni Association Board of Directors held its final meeting of the year at Tolsia High School on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The Board elected the following Officers for 2026: Gary Huff - President, Danny Sartin - Vice President, Kamala Messer - Treasurer, and Sandy Hammond - Secretary.
Overall, FGHSAA had a very successful year in providing 8 scholarships to graduates of Tolsia to attend Marshall University totaling $24,000, increasing the FGHSAA - Richard Plymale Scholarship Endowment Fund with the Marshall University Foundation to almost $700,000 (the Endowment will provide scholarship funding in perpetuity after FGHSAA no longer exists as an organization), held the annual Joe Damron Memorial Golf Tournament, held the Rita Pelfrey Memorial Alumni Banquet, presented the Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award to Tonji Little Bowen, and inducted 5 new Alumni Sports Hall of Fame members.
The Board of Directors also made plans for a major announcement to be made in April 2026.
