Tonight we stand humbled to share the news of this year's VFW Patriot's Pen Middle School essay contest! Piper, a sixth grade student at Fort Fairfield Middle High School, MSAD #20- Fort Fairfield Schools, received the news that she was awarded a $750 award at the National VFW competition! Piper won the Post 6187, the District #1 competition, and the Department of VFW Department of Maine competition over this winter to advance to Nationals. All told, $1450 in awards. We are so proud and inspired by her efforts! Special thanks to the Fort Fairfield Middle High School for their continued support of Patriotism, Community, the VFW, and our annual Patriot's Pen Middle School and Voice of Democracy High School competitions.

Students, want a shot at Piper's success? Next year's theme for both essay competitions, “What a Veteran Taught Me About America.” You have the summer and most of fall; talk to those Veterans and start gathering your thoughts. There is a lot of time between now and October 31st, and we plan to be at the school next fall to assist you!

Join us Sunday, May 3rd, 1-3PM, for our 3rd annual Day of Service food drive in honor of our local area first responders! All donations benefit our very own Fort Fairfield Basket of Blessings food pantry. During the food drive there will be a Touch A Truck event in the parking lot with various civic organizations participating. Drop off your donations and meet the people in our community critical to our safety and well being! I even hear our local K-9 hero may be in attendance! (Sorry Officer Wipperman, but we mean Officer Titan 🤣)

A HUGE thank you to Fort Fairfield and the surrounding communities for supporting this event. For those in attendance last night, we saw real life magic unfold before our very eyes, with a community supporting this family. Thank you for all who donated money or items for the various raffles and auctions. Thank you to our Auxiliary, Veterans, and non-members alike for staffing the event. Special thanks to DJ Justin Crocker, a Post 6187 Veteran member and DJ for providing the music and staying open later than advertised to keep the party going. Last but certainly not least, thank you to the Forsmans for allowing us the honor to host this event and for everyone that came by and generously supported this night to remember!
