Zoltan is right! Make sure you track and report your volunteer hours! It’s good for the community and you! 🙌 If you have questions, please reach out to our very own Vice President of Volunteer Engagement, SFC Akeem Sellers!

Greetings Formation

This is old but a repost because Z0ltan feels that Soldiers need to know or should at least know this information. Filed in Z0ltan's HRC > Templates - MOVSM Template.

Alot of your Soldiers have been volunteering in several different organizations, MWR events and many other things but you don't know how to reward them Z0ltan's got you. You can recommend them the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. It's worth 10 Promotion Points, You get a pretty ribbon. You can only get one per Command/Unit.

What is the MOVSM? The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal can be awarded to Soldiers who perform outstanding volunteer community service of a sustained, direct, and consequential nature.

You can log onto https://vmis.armyfamilywebportal.com and they will show you volunteer events in your area and/or log your hours.

OR

If your volunteering place is not registered through VMIS you can get letter(s) verifying your hours from the shift manager or P.O.C. of said event. Go out there and make a difference in your community, have some fun while doing it, and reward yourself and before you ask, yes there is a template in Z0ltan's HRC.

Requirements:
🗒️Be voluntary.
🗒️Serve the local civilian community, to include the military Family community.
🗒️Be significant in nature and produce tangible results.
🗒️Reflect favorably on the Army and DoD.
🗒️Be of a sustained and direct nature.

You cannot receive the MOVSM for:
🚨A single act or achievement, as this does not constitute sustained community service.
🚨Merely attending membership meetings or social events of a community service group or organization, as this does not constitute significant and direct community service.
🚨Service that is detailed or tasked or performed as part of a military mission (for example, unit project or command sponsored project), as this service is not voluntarily in nature or is part of the command’s mission.
🚨Service that results in personal gain for the Soldier.

📍There are NO minimum amount of hours required for the submission.
📍Approval authority is the first LTC/O5 in the SM's CoC.
📍Per Regulation, The MOVSM is categorized as a service medal and, as such, no orders are issued to announce its approval and there is no award certificate. Approval memorandum and MOVSM data will be uploaded to the Soldier’s AMHRR. (IPERMS).
📍For you Sr. personnel the MOVSM CAN get updated to your Board file.

Z0ltan can only recommend that you process this via email, however if your S1 requires submission in a PAR, you must download then reupload for signatures. After the PAR is approved, you must manually update the award in IPPS-A.
