On a recent visit to Washington DC I stopped into the Washington National Cathedral. Finally had a chance to see stained glass windows designed by acclaimed artist Kerry James Washington. He is the artist who also designed the public art piece “A Monumental Journey” (honoring the National bar Association ) located in Des Moines at Second Street and Grand Avenue.
The story of the Windows is:
“In 2017, the Cathedral removed twin stained glass windows and stone tablets that honored Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The windows told a particular story about these men but distorted both our shared history and our understanding of God.
Today, we aim to tell a more complete and more expansive version of our
shared history.
These new
windows call us to fairness. Fairness leads to justice.
And justice leads us closer to God.” Love it!!!
