Gateway To Discovery

Gateway To Discovery Offering a faith-based residential recovery program designed to help women in their rise from the depths of chemical addiction and related struggles.

This is a structured program with progressive goals being made and reached as each woman moves through the various stages. There is close oversight by a Program Director. The Program Director is at the house during the day and on call 24/7. The women will receive housing, food, case management, therapy, substance treatment, help assessing education and other needs while volunteering throughout the

community. We believe that it is while living in a compassionate and disciplined community, with the support of peers, that women learn and sustain life skills vital for staying clean, healthy and independent. At Gateway, the staff, the volunteers and the programs supplement what the women teach each other and learn to do day after day over a period of 24 months; wake up on time, do the laundry, clean a bathroom, cook a meal, catch the bus, attend AA/ NA and meet a sponsor, get to a GED class on time, make a child support payment or an appointment with probation officer and then get to work on time, make and keep a long ago postponed doctor’s appointment, open a bank account and save money, cope with an irritable roommate or co-worker, get a driver’s license and buy a car, grieve losses, celebrate 1 or 6 or 10 months of sobriety, resolve a problems in a healthy manner , go on a job interview , show a woman who is new to the program how to catch the bus for the first time. The two year program is designed to help women heal physically, emotionally and spiritually. In order to heal the community we must begin healing one woman at a time. Gateway to Discovery is modeling a program The Magdalene House in Nashville Tennessee. This program has operated for 15 years and has a 72% success rate. Magdalene continues to offer insight into their programming to create success at Gateway to Discovery.

Our Message of Hope

Gateway to Discovery is a two-year, faith based, 501c(3) non-profit residential support program located in Fort Dodge, Iowa, designed to help heal women who are recovering from addiction, homelessness, and other related struggles. The Mission Statement is “Offering Women a Sanctuary for Recovering in Community.”

Gateway to Discovery is modeled after Magdalene House and Thistle Farms in Nashville, Tennessee, founded by Rev. Becca Stevens and based on the simple premise, “Love changes lives.”

Residents commit to two years in the community of recovery receiving housing, food, counseling, access to heath care, and opportunities for education and job training at no cost to them. They learn social and other life skills crucial to maintaining sobriety and becoming independent contributing members of society.

After an initial phase of healing, the residents can be involved at Hope Sweet Hope Studios, Gateway’s social enterprise. At the Studio, they create one-of-a-kind floral paper art items, greeting cards, gift tags, journals, bookmarks, jewelry, magnets, ornaments and more, which are distributed locally and nationally with proceeds assisting the financial operations of the program. As they gain job skills, they heal physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, creating peace, one piece at a time.
