Kratom may be marketed as a natural and safe alternative to opioids or stimulants, but it's addictive, unregulated, and comes with serious risks.

Since 2024, there have been 45 kratom-associated deaths in Iowa. Synthetic and concentrated kratom products, like 7-OH, are growing in availability and can result in dependence quickly.

✅Know the signs of an overdose and call 911 immediately.
✅Use naloxone if available - 7‑OH acts on opioid receptors. Naloxone can temporarily reverse an overdose and it is ok to administer even if the substance is unknown.
✅Contact CFR at 866-801-0085 or Your Life Iowa (phone 855‑581‑8111, text 855‑895‑8398, or YourLifeIowa.org) for help if you or someone you know may be experiencing kratom dependence or withdrawal.
