The Diné Native Plants Program event schedule during the 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair 🎡

Wednesday, September 9th, 2026 – Navajo Nation Fair Horticulture Exhibition: Rancher Producer Workshops. DNPP will be presenting at 10:00 AM at one of the White Tents set up inside the Fairgrounds. The presentation will be about Ecological Restoration and Native Plants on Navajo Nation.

Thursday, September 10th, 2026 – Chill + Craft with the Dine Native Plants Program. This is our event we are hosting on Elder Day. Starting at 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, DNPP will have a wool dyeing session, presentation on Navajo Tea, and all day crafting and harvesting activity.

Friday, September 11th, 2026 – 2026 NNDOT Symposium: Learning from Water, Planning with the Land. DNPP will be presenting at 9:00 AM at the Navajo DOT John Pinto Conference Center. The presentation will be sharing techniques and learned experiences from protecting our natural springs on the Navajo Nation, and the challenges that come with restoration efforts. Understanding how Native Plants are powerhouses for keeping our soils healthy and strong.

We understand there is so much happening during the Navajo Nation Fair week, and figured we could share the places we will be presenting at. Our presentations will mostly be about our recent restoration projects and how Native Plants are super beneficial to our homelands during a time of drought. Of course, there will be time for questions at these events. Jot down a question if you have them and we will share what we know with you. NIHI NA’ACH’ĄĄHÍ Á’TÉ (We Are Painters!) Watercolor Workshop Series! TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY (09/02/2026)!

Sko paint Diné Flowers & Trees with Diné Native Plants Program!
DNPP will be taking participants on a short hike to learn about local flowers & trees, their uses, and find out about DNPP’s program! Participants will choose a plant or tree to paint and their work will be featured in a future Navajo Nation Museum exhibit.
4:00 - 6:00* pm (MST)
Meet @ NN Museum Trailhead**
*Extended time for a short hike to the sandstone to paint!
**For those who are not able to make the trail, paint at the picnic table near the trailhead.

The Museum will provide paper, paint, brushes, & snacks!
Local & community creatives of all levels welcome!
Opportunity to display your creations inside the Navajo Nation Museum!

Please be advised this session takes place outdoors; dress appropriately for warm weather and stay hydrated. There will be no shaded areas on the sandstone, feel free to bring your own hat or umbrella!

The Diné College Land Grant Office presents the 2026 Navajo Nation Fair Horticulture Show!

We invite producers on the Navajo Nation to register for entry and showcase their produce. On-site registration will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

Categories include Fruits, Hay, Floral Arrangements, Vegetables, Traditional Foods, and Food Preparation.

Entry Criteria:
- Produce must be from this year’s growing season.
- Produce must be grown in the producer’s own field.
- Produce must be attached to the stem, leaf, or vine.
- Fresh produce only. Dry produce will be categorized under Food Preparation.

Chill + Craft with the Diné Native Plants Program! The Diné Native Plants Program invites you to our space to: dye some wool, learn about harvesting Native Plants, and participate in a mini-weaving activity. Free event for all!

When: Thursday, September 10th, 2026, from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. Happening on Elder Day during the Navajo Nation Fair.
•
Where: The Diné Native Plants Program. Northwest, New Blue building located inside the Navajo Nation Fairgrounds. Our building is located South of HWY 264, West of the EMT Station. Also right next to "Gate 2"/ Parking Lot 3.
•
The Diné Native Plants Program will be participating in hosting an Elder Day event on Elder Day during the 78th Annual Navajo Nation Fair in Window Rock. This event is for our Elders as well for everyone in the community, who are planning to attend the Fair on Thursday. We want to provide our Elders with an air conditioned space for them to cool down from the heat and get out of the sun. We welcome everyone to come over to our building to get out of the heat, sit down, and interact with each other in a mini-crafting and plant harvesting session. This single-day event is tree for everyone to attend.

The rough schedule is: starting our morning with a wool dye session, followed by a presentation about how to respectfully harvest Navajo Tea, and for the remainder of the day will be used to cool down and weave a mini project. Elders and everyone who attends can also participate in a Neeshjizhii activity while supplies last!

Escape the crowds, cool down, and craft! The Diné Native Plants team is looking forward to this event and getting to visit with our Elders. See you all soon! - DNPP 🧶

The 2026 Navajo Nation Fair is providing a Navajo Farmers Market for you to showcase and sell your locally grown, raised, and produced products!

No registration required. No vendor fee. Simply check in at Navajo Square, Tent C, and we will assign you a space. The only cost is Fairground parking.

Come showcase your hard work, support Navajo agriculture, and connect with Fair visitors. We look forward to seeing our Navajo farmers, ranchers, and producers at the Fair!

Traditional Foods Workshop with LeAnder Goldtooth is still scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 9AM. Some have been concerned about the recent moisture. Rain or shine, we will still continue our event with LeAnder. If attending, please be aware of the weather and to hydrate. Late showers are expected in the afternoon with moderate humidity. The workshop will be mostly outdoors, so if you need sunscreen, bug spray, an umbrella, that is your choice to make. There is no registration, just a sign-in sheet upon arrival. Youth are highly encouraged to attend; they are our future and should have access to learn about our Navajo lifeways. There is a slight possibility of an animal being harvested, to give a gentle reminder. Other than that, if you have any more questions, please email DNPP at [email protected].
