Last week, we had the opportunity to hang out with the community of Two Grey Hills on Earth Day for 4Kinship‘s Diné Skate Jam! 🌈🌱

It was so gnarly to see the kiddos and one of our very own, rip some tricks on some buttery slab (skater lingo for how good the skate park is lol)! We shared ways you can eliminate plastic pots and use newspaper pots (we used NNDFW’s old hunting proclamations). Using paper pots to plant seeds like heirloom corn, yucca, native grasses.. and if those were too cool for the kiddos, they also had the chance to plant veggie seeds. 🌱

Our observations showed that some soil, seeds, and water can make kids really excited and happy! We highly encourage everyone to interact with the youth and plant a few plants. Drop in, do some planting and growing, life will be steezy. 🌱🛹🌈

Just a reminder of our Planting Event coming up! 🌱🌎

We appreciate all the support for our upcoming Plant Sale & are super excited to see everyone there! While we have some attention, we would like to share one more event that will be happening in May! 🤩

You’re invited to our Planting Event taking place in Ganado, AZ, from May 4th - 15th! During this two week timeframe, we will be planting grass plugs our team has been working so diligently on for the past few months. This planting of Native Grasses is for our greater purpose at the Diné Native Plants Program. If you choose to attend, we can share more about what the project will serve as. But for now — save the date & plan to attend (QR code)! 🤩 We would so graciously appreciate as many hands as we can get [because there’s only 4 of us and we need to plant 10,000+ plants]! 🌱

Reach out if you have any questions about this event. The QR code has more information of what the event will entail. Thank you & we hope to see you there! 🌱

Last week we had the opportunity to co-host a reading session for the youth in the community. The Navajo Nation Library had asked us to be part of their Pre-K Story Time, which we had the pleasure to help with. As we’re always around plants, this was a good time for us to take a morning and share information about seeds and plants. We read to the children in the simplest way we could about seeds and plants. Then come to find out, were so shocked and happy to realize the kids already knew what seeds were, where seeds come from, watering your plants — it was a very heartwarming thing to witness! After we read to them and after they shared their stories with us, we showed them how to make paper pots out of newspaper. We then assisted them in planting their own seeds that same day. They were so excited! We showed them how to put soil in their paper pots, put the seeds in their pots, and watered the seeds. That day, they planted corn and beans. We sure hope their corn and beans are starting to sprout! 🌱

We get so caught up in our work, this was a good reminder that sharing knowledge about plants with our youth is vital to their development, so they can continue the importance of caring for the land and themselves. ☀️
