Mitre Peak Girl Scout Camp

Camp Mitre Peak is a Girl Scout Camp in west Texas between Alpine and Ft. Davis.

Part of the Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest Council, CMP primarily serves girls in west Texas and New Mexico for summer resident camp, troop camping and other events.

Camp is Calling! Exciting News!
Camp enrollment is up for 2026!

STAFF or VOLUNTEERS needed for a few openings!

LIFEGUARD for Session 1-3 => June 21 to July 11
(If your LG cert has expired & you're interested, reach out! We might be able to find a course for you to take before camp starts!)

KITCHEN HELPER for Session 2 => June 28 to July 4
KITCHEN HELPER for Session 3 => July 5 to July 11
(If you can chop, mix, make coffee, wash dishes or get things out of the walk-in, then you can be a kitchen helper! No cooking experience needed!)

CAMP IS GETTING SO CLOSE - but there's still time to register and even apply for financial aid!

The deadline to apply for FA is Sunday, May 10th. You must register for a program and pay the $75 deposit to be considered.

ADVENTURE AWAITS!

Calling all 9th-12th graders - come out to Mitre Peak during session 2 for this NEW program

Explore beyond camp at the Davis Mountains Preserve - a special property owned by the Nature Conservancy featuring incredible landscapes and views. Go cheer on the hometown boys at an Alpine Cowboys baseball game.

Round out your week with adventures planned by you - maybe a night on the plateau or out at the fish hatchery? This program is all about finding your next adventure at camp.

This photo isn't from the conservancy - it'll be a new place for us to visit. I'm imagining the breathtaking view as I type - don't you want to go and see for yourself??

Session 3 of CMP 2026 has so much to offer - but I'm only letting myself talk about just ONE program right now!

BEYOND THE STARS

Think "Into the Night", but just for 9th-12th graders! Sleep in, stay up late, and fill the cool night air with laughter and shenanigans.

You'll get to attend a Star Party at the McDonald Observatory, experiment with no-flash photography, and spot-light for nocturnal friends with Texas Parks & Wildlife. Stay up late by a cozy fire at the Kickapoo shelter to keep nightwatch - and maybe tell a story or two.

Bring a friend, cause you're going to be talking about this week of camp until next year!

NEW program for 2026 - TRUE NORTH

Ok - I had to dig waaaay back into the archives for this image. Three Girl Scouts, three friends, three different career paths - but they all found and polished their guiding compasses at Mitre Peak.

True North is for Seniors and Ambassadors and is based on the new award from GSUSA, but has the added flair and magic that only Mitre has to offer.

Maybe you want to be a CIT but aren't quite old enough. Maybe you ARE old enough, but only have one week to commit to camp this year. Maybe you want to build your goal setting and personal leadership skills and have fun at the same time!

This session will be led by an experienced counselor (who happens to be one of the most FUN people I know) who will guide older campers through goal setting and the teamwork it takes to make goals happen. She might even be in this picture!

There will of course be time for yo-yos, hiking, swimming, and all the fun things camp has to offer, including a celebratory hike up Hancock Hill in Alpine to sign the famous desk! True North is for the camper with a sense of adventure AND direction. We can't wait for you to sign up for this empowering week of camp.

MOUNTAIN HIKERS

Talk about a determined, fun group last year! We HAD to bring this program back!

Mountain Hikers is classic camp - hike all of your favorite trails, blaze some new ones on the plateau, sleep under the ⭐️ stars ⭐️ , and make lifelong friends along the way.

The week ends with a hike up the shoulder of Mitre - where the views don’t stop, and you’ll soak up enough Mitre Magic to hold you until next summer!

2026 Camp Mitre Peak Program Highlight!

When we say we're girl-led, we mean it! This fun group from 2025 signed up for Water Fun, and then proceeded to squeeze more activity into their week than any of us thought possible.

They chose to add as much art and archery that they could fit in - and luckily one of their counselors, Nimbus, is a seasoned archery instructor, and their other counselor, Shrimp, is a graphic designer!

These campers had SO MUCH FUN that we designed a new program for 3rd - 5th graders based on their week last year - Art & Archery!

Offered in BOTH sessions 1 and 3, campers will get a week of adventure and creativity through archery instruction and games, crafting nightlights and windchimes, and letting their imaginations lead the way! Of course campers also get to swim, hike, and take part in all of our camp traditions.
