Dujiangyan turns gold every fall, the river cutting straight through mountains that have watched this same color change for centuries. China holds so much more than the classroom you pictured when you signed up. Curious what this could look like for you?

Somewhere in Uzbekistan, a turquoise dome rises above brick walls that have stood for centuries, half hidden by pine branches like the trees are trying to keep it secret. You round a corner on an ordinary walk and suddenly you're standing in front of something ancient. Uzbekistan has a way of doing that, hiding its best moments in plain sight.

Some doorways in Morocco look like this: sun-bleached stone, an arched entry dripping in bougainvillea, ironwork gilded gold against the green. You could walk past it every day and still stop to look. This is the kind of ordinary beauty that becomes background music to your life here. Curious what this could look like for you?

In 1985, a hundred or so people gathered on a lawn for a photo before their first summer teaching in China. Most of them had never done anything like it before. That single summer program became the root of everything ELIC has grown into since. It's worth remembering how small the beginning actually was.

Vietnam moves at its own pace, and its streets say as much about the culture as any landmark could. Moments like this are where real cultural understanding begins, not in a guidebook, but in the everyday routines of the people around you. Living abroad means slowly trading the unfamiliar for the ordinary, until you find yourself moving to the same rhythm.

The steppe outside Ulaanbaatar rolls on forever, green all the way to a mountain still holding onto its snow. It's the kind of quiet that makes you forget what a notification even sounds like. Mongolia doesn't ask you to slow down. It just doesn't give you a choice.

Laos and epic scenery go hand-in-hand. These are your views on your way home. You still stop and take it all in, every time, like it's the first.

Jordan spreads out below you like this most evenings, rooftops and antennas and one ancient amphitheater tucked into the hillside. Somewhere down there, life is happening in Arabic, and you're slowly learning to keep up. The view still gets you every single time. Curious what this could look like for you?
