There's a snake in my tube!

Enrichment for our rescues comes in all different forms! Something as cost effective as a paper towel tube can be a great hidey hole for a little rat snake.

A Prairie Rattlesnake found during the Ponds Fire mop up on Friday, April 24th.

This week a wildfire threatened homes in West Fort Collins, resulting in mandatory evacuations for many people. Luckily, the swift response prevented damage to any nearby homes.

However the fire did burn around 9 acres of prairie habitat. Luckily our reptile friends are well adapted to local fire regimes and can withstand long periods of unfavorable conditions.

This little friend's den had likely been burned over and they are experiencing a short term forced migration to find new cover and food resources.

Thank you so much to and for keeping our community safe (both humans and critters)!
