This past Memorial Day weekend, Scouts from Troop 12 placed flags on veteran headstones at Resthaven Memorial Gardens and Grandview cemeteries in Fort Collins to honor the brave warriors who were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.

Ot is an honor to be affiliated with our partner organization, the VFW Post 1781 and learn more about our military branches and the brave men and women in our community.

Thank you to our heros for your service to our nation.

We are so fortunate to have Ramin as a member of our district and council. He brings so much great energy to our older youth programs and community outreach. He is a great example demonstrating how Scouting and mentoring can continue into adulthood. Congratulations Ramin!! 🎉🎉🎉

We express our gratitude to Tom Roberts for his service as the National Venturing Commissioner, we are pleased to announce that Ramin Rostampour has been selected as the next individual to serve in this role.

Ramin is from Lenexa, KS where he joined Scouting in 2002 in the Heart of America Council. He earned his Arrow of Light in 2006, his Eagle Scout Rank in 2012, and his Venturing Silver Award in 2015. Ramin joined Venturing in 2011 and quickly fell in love with the program. In the 2014-2015 term he had the honor to serve as the Central Region Area 5 Venturing President. Additionally, Ramin has served on staff at the 2013, 2017, and 2023 National Scout Jamborees and is planning on returning to staff at the 2026 Nation Scout Jamboree. Ramin recently returned from serving on the International Service Team at the World Scout Moot in Portugal this past July.

We love hearing the many ways in which Scouting prepares people for life.

On May 8, alum Levi Lynn was aboard the aircraft involved in the runway accident at Denver airport, where the plane struck an individual on the runway, triggering an engine fire that forced passengers to evacuate via emergency slides.

Amid the confusion and smoke-filled cabin, Levi safely exited the aircraft but then turned around to help other passengers as they came down the emergency slide.

When interviewed afterward by local media, Levi explained that his ability to remain calm during the emergency came from his Emergency Preparedness training and experiences as an Eagle Scout.

Scouting instills leadership, preparedness, service, and the confidence to step forward in difficult moments. In a situation where many people understandably focused on their own safety, Levi’s instinct was to help others.

Preparedness matters. Training matters. Character matters.

Thanks, Levi, for being prepared, and thank you to all the adult Scouting volunteers who helped prepare Levi.

In April, Troop 12 participated in the Bighorn District, Adventure West Council, Scouting America Troop Showcase at Ben Delatour Scout Ranch - Boy Scouts. Our Scouts participated in rock climbing on natural rock, shot clays with a 12-gauge shotgun, shot archery targets and shot .22 rifles. Climbing certified instructors taught our Scouts the rules and the ropes for climbing. NRA certified instructors taught our Scouts about the rules for safety on the range as well as how to load and fire each of the target tools/guns. This weekend allowed all Scouts to try new and adventurous activities.

It was a winter camping weekend as the temperatures were in the low to mid 20’s at night and the highs were in the low 50’s. Our Scouts prepared their own meals, constructed a swing with pioneer lashings, cooked a S’more cake dessert for judges and celebrated one of Scouts being elected and tapped out to join the Order of the Arrow. It was a great weekend of camping and having fun. 🙂

April was a busy month for Troop 12. We celebrated Scout achievements with a Court of Honor. Several Scouts were awarded merit badges and we celebrated Kale’s Eagle Scout rank award.

Many of our Scouts have progressed from a Tiger Cub Scout (first grader) to the rank of Eagle Scout (a rank they achieve before their 18th birthday). An Eagle Scout must earn 21 required merit badges, demonstrate their abilities to camp, cook, manage their time, manage their money, lead the troop by stepping or being elected into different roles within the troop. Bottom line, it takes a lot of hard work, developing a plan, sticking to the plan, and remaining organized and dedicated. All of these are great life skills!

Congratulations to our Troop 12 Scouts and to Kale!
