"On Tuesday, January 27, we lost a beloved member of our community to a tragic accident at EPIC. Rick Robbins passed away after suffering injuries following a collision while operating the zamboni.
Rick was a staple in our community and at our rink for over a decade. He was meticulous in making quality ice specifically for the needs of figure skaters and quick to offer a smile and wave to both skaters and parents.
This loss is especially difficult for Rick’s granddaughter and our own club member Ava Alvarez. Ava is an active member of the Open Juvenile Fire Crystals synchro team and Rick was often seen at competitions cheering on the skaters as the Team Grandpa. Ava’s mom Robin Kivette, and grandma Lisa Keeton are also both actively involved in volunteering with the club and at events.
During this time, we ask that you keep Rick’s family and friends in mind as they process and navigate this loss. We will share information on a public service when it is set. If you are interested in helping the family, a club member has set up a meal train: https://mealtrain.com/4gzwg6. The family prefers meals over monetary donations.
We are deeply affected by this loss and will keep Rick’s memory and spirit with us each time we step on the ice.
Forever in our Hearts,
Fort Collins Figure Skating Club Board and Coaches"
