The way we respond to our kids has more to do with what’s happening inside of us than what’s happening in front of us.

Sometimes what our kids don’t hear from us can shape them just as much as what they do.

As dads, it can be easier to stay quiet than to risk saying the wrong thing, getting uncomfortable, or stepping into a conversation we never learned how to have. But our kids can still make meaning out of that absence, often filling in the blanks with stories about whether they matter, whether they’re known, and whether they’re worth showing up for.
