Meet Andrew!

If Andrew could change one thing with a magic wand, he would prevent any student from dropping out of school. He is a studious young man who likes to read, and his interests in debate during primary school and his observations about the impact of government lead him to think about a role in his community as an advocate or lawyer.

Welcome Andrew!

Meet Dora!

Dora credits her mother and several teachers for helping shape the person she has become today. In fact, among her biggest motivations to do well in life is to provide for her parents, especially her mother, who raised eight children. Dora's future interests are varied, but they all have one thing in common: helping others. Welcome Dora!

Meet Victor!

Another new scholarship recipient, Victor was so positively influenced by teachers that he aspires to become a teacher himself. He loves music and basketball, and counts winning a music competition last year as his proudest moment of primary school. And like so many of our scholarship recipients, he names his mother as the most positive influence in his life. Welcome, Victor!

Meet Agnes!

SYEF welcomes Agnes to our community of hard-working leaders! Agnes credits her mother and one of her school teachers for helping get her to a place in life where she was awarded a scholarship for secondary school. Agnes' leadership journey is well underway, having roles in her school such as prefect, scout and flag bearer, and she is ready to continue taking advantage of similar opportunities as they come up, and continue to develop and grow as a leader. Welcome Agnes!

Meet Saruni!

Another recent addition to our scholarship community, Saruni loves football. He loves playing it, watching it and talking about it with friends. He is part of the massive global community who can connect via the world's most popular sport.

Looking ahead, Saruni knows his community can become stronger, and his belief is it starts with unity and access to health care. He hopes to have an influential role in helping his community move in that direction. Welcome, Saruni!

It's International Women's Day!

During our kickoff meeting with new scholarship recipient cohort, we ask our youth to attend with someone from their family so they can learn together about the ins and outs of our program.

Every single year, this group is comprised nearly 100% of mothers, aunts, grandmothers and sisters.

In this photo, they are mostly in the back row and giving the spotlight to their sons and daughters, not unlike they do everyday for so many people in their households and community.

Because of these women, SYEF has opportunities to provide opportunities to young people with tremendous character, work ethic and ambition.

For SYEF, today is a day to put the spotlight on these women for a moment, and express gratitude for their role in the lives of Samburu young people!

Meet Jamani!

Another member of our newest scholarship cohort, Jamani is especially intrigued by social studies in their studies thus far, specifically learning about historical events that lead to current-day injustices. This aligns with their interest in making sure all youth in Samburu have access to education, to help overcome injustices and give everyone an opportunity to chase their goals.

SYEF is fortunate to have people like Jamani in our community, giving us and the world reasons to be hopeful for the future.

Meet Ndimesi!

One of our new scholarship recipients, Ndimesi is one of 8 children. She gives credit to her mother for having the most positive influence in her life, always making sure Ndimesi had her needs met and providing guidance for how to be a good person in society. Ndimesi would like to work in health care in the future, and provide advice to her community on how live a full and healthy life!

Welcome to SYEF, Ndimesi!

Meet Newton!

One of our new scholarship recipients, Newton credits his Aunt for always being there for him, and helping him become someone who is not afraid to do what's right. Down the road, Newton wants to have a leadership role in helping his community develop and grow in ways that provide sufficient housing, health care and opportunities for young people. Welcome to SYEF, Newton!
