Three weeks!

We love this photo so much!

Chamanta was part of our very first cohort of scholarship recipients, selected in late 2010, when SYEF was just a few months old. We were very certain of our purpose, but much less certain how we’d sustain it for the long haul.

Today, Chamanta teaches primary school in Samburu, the same region she grew up in.

Her story shows what’s possible in Samburu when opportunities are unlocked, and in this case, unlocked by organizations working together. SYEF cleared a path to secondary school, and Empowering Livelihood Kenya Foundation then supported her through her teacher training. Now Chamanta's students have a teacher who understands their lives, motivations, and challenges, because she was once in their shoes.

Please support SYEF and similar organizations that unlock opportunities for individuals who just need a door opened!

Mark your calendars if you're in the area!

Another example of the positive journeys of SYEF alums. Brian, who finished secondary school two years ago, completed his training with the Kenya police academy a few weeks ago, and is now a member of the National Police Service. Congrats Brian!

School break in August means our students were home, and ready to do some service projects for the community. We love those smiles!

Our advisory Board in Samburu is truly so good. Their valuable guidance, deliberation and debate helps ensure we are meeting the needs of the community, and operating with the highest levels of integrity and accountability. So appreciative of this group!

We always love stories of what alums are up to. Aldina (left), works for Actions for Cheetahs, in the organization's department of education as an outreach coordinator. Another great example of what happens when you invest in promising young people!

We recently wrapped up our reflections, metrics and reporting for 2025. Some initial outputs that summarize our activities:

- 46 fully supported for secondary school tuition, room, board and supplies
- 10 secondary school graduates, bringing our total to date to 132
- 6 life skills workshops and community service projects
- 93.8% of expenditures spent directly on programs
- ~30 women participated in our beadwork initiative

We get a lot done for a small organization, and more importantly, we do so in a way that is attentive to the social and cultural contexts of the place where we work, and with the trust of the communities we serve!
