Stream Tracker

Stream Tracker Join this community-powered network recording when and where smaller streams are flowing

Stream Tracker is a nationwide stream monitoring project engaging the community in crowdsourced, on-the-ground observations of when and where streams are flowing. Anyone can join this project by signing up through the Stream Tracker website: https://www.streamtracker.org/ . Participants then use a mobile app downloaded on their phone to mark where they see a small stream that crosses a trail or ro

ad and their observation of streamflow condition (flow, no flow, standing water, or channel covered/other). This rapid observation can be made in less than two minutes while you are out hiking, biking, walking, working, or driving! You can establish a new site or add data to an exisiting location (hotspot). Each observation contributed helps create a record of data of when these smaller streams have flow or dry. These data are used to track how streams change over time, whether due to changing climate, or rapid landscape change such as wildfire or floods.

YES! Are you ready!? The September Stream Track-a-thon starts TODAY and goes until Sunday, October 1st. For the next two weeks, get out and track streamflow conditions. Every observation you contribute enters you in a drawing for prizes awarded at the end of the track-a-thon. Your observations help us create a snapshot in time of which streams are flowing and which have gone dry this time of year when conditions tend to be drier.
