YES! Are you ready!? The September Stream Track-a-thon starts TODAY and goes until Sunday, October 1st. For the next two weeks, get out and track streamflow conditions. Every observation you contribute enters you in a drawing for prizes awarded at the end of the track-a-thon. Your observations help us create a snapshot in time of which streams are flowing and which have gone dry this time of year when conditions tend to be drier.

Get Started!
1. Join the project (if you have not already) either on our website for instructions delivered to your inbox or by downloading the Anecdata. org app and searching for then joining Stream Tracker in the app.
2. Go for a hike, drive, run, walk, leaf-peeping adventure in your watershed..... when a smaller stream channel intersects the road or trail you are on, log a new observation and record whether you see a dry channel, flowing water, or standing water.
3. Take a photo or two. Upload your observation and then keep stream tracking!

Today's spotlight is on Doe Creek Trail!
>Located near Lake Granby, you can start this hike from the Doe Creek trailhead. It is a moderate hike just under 4 miles one-way with 1,300 feet of elevation gain. There are a total of 6 Stream Tracker hotspots along this trail.

Explore Tipperary Creek Trail
>Start this hike across from the Leland Creek Parking area in the Fraser Experimental Forest. It is a challenging 5.7 mile hike one way, but the 8 Stream Tracker hotspots are all within the first 2 miles of this trail.

Want to visit Monarch Lake?
>Start this trail from the Monarch Lake Trailhead. It is an easy 4 mile hike around Monarch Lake with little elevation gain. There are 14 Stream Tracker hotspots along this trail.

Have you ever hiked to Emmaline Lake?
>This hike starts at the Emmaline Lake/ Mummy Pass Trailhead. The trail is a moderate to hard 5.7 mile hike one-way with an elevation gain of ~900 feet. There are 11 Stream Tracker hotspots on along the way.

Check out Big South Trail!
>Located right off of Highway 14, Big South is one of our priority hikes this summer. While you can hike further on the trail, there are a total of 14 Stream Tracker hotspots within the first 3.5 miles.

What a wonderful evening for a hike! Thank you to all who came out to Stream Track with us on Wednesday. We spent the evening exploring low elevation streams on the Front Range followed by a spectacular sunset.

Stream Tracker in the news! The outstanding contributions of the many volunteers are improving the mapping and monitoring of streams on the U.S. Forest Service-Arapaho & Roosevelt Natl Forests Pawnee Natl Grassland and nationwide

Researchers hope the data submitted to the Stream Tracker app by citizen scientists will help them learn about how streams are affected by climate change, wildfires and development.

Join us Wednesday! We have added a guided hike Wednesday, August 16th at 5:30 pm to walk the South Valley Loop in Lory State Park. This is a mild ~2.5-mile walk where you can learn how to stream track while exploring low-elevation streams on the Front Range.

Like hiking? We have partnered with the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests to track intermittent streams along six priority trails in the Cache la Poudre watershed and Granby/Grand Lake area. You can sign up to volunteer to hike one of these priority trails anytime between July and October 1st. Visit the link above for more information.

*We have postponed the guided hike to Emmaline Lake this Sunday due to weather*
Instead, join us this Wednesday (Aug. 16) at 5:30 pm to walk the South Valley Loop of Lory State Park. Along the way, you will have a chance to practice with the project mobile app to log an observation as well as take a closer look at the smaller streams that intersect the trail to learn what the Stream Tracker project is all about!
