The Ember Alliance The Ember Alliance is a nonprofit based in Northern Colorado. Wildfires are inevitable – so we need a workforce ready for them.

Our team works with partners across the country to restore peoples’ relationships with fire and restore ecosystem processes with fire. The Ember Alliance helps communities prepare for wildfires, from preplanning to response to the sometimes long recovery period. We also work with public and private groups to conduct prescribed fires to make sure that when wildfires happen, they burn calmly in heal

thy forests and grasslands that have been burned previously. The Ember Alliance is committed to training a workforce to address this challenge. Too long, these valuable blue collar jobs have not reflected the diversity of America, and we work to solve this.

We are thrilled to welcome new TEAm member, Scott! 🔥

Scott spent over a decade as a member of a touring band, where he also managed the business side, handling budgets, contracts, and logistics for the group, along with relationships with agents, venues, and legal counsel. That experience is what pulled him toward project coordination, and more recently he's been applying it to GIS work. He's based in Missoula, where he spends his free time climbing, mountain biking, and hiking with his family.

We are thrilled to welcome new TEAm member, Julia! 🔥

Julia graduated with a BS in Biology from William & Mary and an MS in Sustainable Forest Management from Oregon State University before joining the Ember Alliance. She is passionate about fire ecology and adaptive management and is excited to keep learning about fire and fuels in her current position. In her free time Julia plays ultimate frisbee and enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and printmaking.

We are thrilled to welcome new TEAm member, Jacob! 🔥

Jacob began his career in wildland fire science at Tall Timbers Research Station and went on to receive an M.S. in Forest and Rangeland Stewardship from Colorado State University. As a Research Scientist with the New Mexico Consortium, he used terrestrial LiDAR to scan and represent fuels in 3D for ecosystem monitoring. He is passionate about LiDAR and using innovative tools like QUIC-Fire to predict fire behavior. Bringing researchers and land managers together in a co-production environment ensures that these approaches are continually refined to help better meet objectives. In his free time, Jacob may be found mountain biking, backpacking, and Nordic skiing.

The Uwharrie crew spent several days working on the NC Sandhills Gamelands cutting invasive Callery Pear trees. This particular unit is important habitat for rare butterflies, but the Callery Pear shades out native plants and had been taking over the area. The crew used chainsaws and brushcutters to cut the trees and also sprayed the stumps with herbicide to prevent resprouting. The crew cut over 1.5 acres of densely growing Callery Pear, which helps to open the understory back up to a more natural longleaf pine savanna.
