The Ember Alliance

The Ember Alliance The Ember Alliance is a nonprofit based in Northern Colorado. Wildfires are inevitable – so we need a workforce ready for them.

Our team works with partners across the country to restore peoples’ relationships with fire and restore ecosystem processes with fire. The Ember Alliance helps communities prepare for wildfires, from preplanning to response to the sometimes long recovery period. We also work with public and private groups to conduct prescribed fires to make sure that when wildfires happen, they burn calmly in heal

thy forests and grasslands that have been burned previously. The Ember Alliance is committed to training a workforce to address this challenge. Too long, these valuable blue collar jobs have not reflected the diversity of America, and we work to solve this.

Field notes from the Uwharries Crew: Through the night on the fireline 🔥

The crew assisted with a prescribed burn on a TNC preserve in the NC Sandhills, starting ignitions around 7:30 PM and working through the early morning hours. Burning at night, when humidity is higher, helps moderate fire behavior in areas that can be more challenging under daytime conditions.

The team supported both ignition and holding operations—keeping fire where it belongs while getting good work done on the ground.

A long night, a successful burn, and a well-earned day of rest!

The Ember Alliance recently partnered with Dr. Hussam Mahmoud, the Louisville Fire Protection District, and the City of Louisville to complete the Louisville Wildfire and Conflagration Risk Assessment (WCRA), an effort to better understand how fire can spread through the built environment.

The type of assessment was a new venture for TEA and moves beyond traditional wildfire planning by evaluating structure-to-structure fire spread and community-wide vulnerabilities. The result is a set of targeted recommendations that help residents, neighborhoods, and local agencies reduce risk and improve preparedness.

Field notes from the Uwharries Crew 🔥

Back in February, the crew worked alongside the USFS to burn wildlife fields to keep them in an early successional state—bringing fire across the landscape with as much intensity as conditions safely allowed. These burns play an important role in maintaining habitat and supporting ecosystem health.

This shot, captured by Killian, shows Matt holding the line on the firebreak to the right. A full day on the line included some impressive dust devils and 377 acres successfully treated.

Good fire, good work, and another step toward healthier landscapes.
