The Ember Alliance recently completed another successful NWCG S-130/S-190 & L-180 course in partnership with Front Range Community College in Fort Collins- providing 11 students with foundational training in wildland fire behavior, firefighter safety, incident operations, and field-based suppression skills.

Throughout the course, students built practical knowledge of fireline operations and gained hands-on experience designed to prepare them for entry-level positions in wildland fire and natural resource management. Delivering this course through FRCC continues to strengthen a growing workforce development pathway by connecting college students directly with nationally recognized NWCG training and experienced wildland fire instructors.

The course also represents an important step in expanding access to professional wildfire training in northern Colorado and helping develop the next generation of qualified, safety-focused fire practitioners. The Ember Alliance is proud to continue building this partnership with FRCC and creating opportunities for students to translate classroom learning into meaningful careers in wildland fire, prescribed fire, and land stewardship.

The Ember Alliance is proud to endorse Proposition 137 for Colorado’s land and water.

Colorado just experienced its worst snowpack on record, and the impacts of record-breaking drought are straining our water supplies and worsening wildfire risk. The state urgently needs recurring, annual funding to prevent these problems from becoming catastrophes.

Funding wildfire risk reduction, water and land conservation, outdoor recreation, and access to nature is the best way to protect the Colorado we know and love. We are proud to support a measure that will do just that, all without raising taxes.

The Resilient Communities and Ecosystems department is proud to announce the completion of the 2026 Livermore Fire Protection District Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). Developed in partnership with the Livermore Fire Protection District, local partners, and community members, the plan identifies local wildfire risks and outlines priority actions residents, the fire district, and partners can take to reduce them.

The Livermore CWPP is one of many CWPPs The Ember Alliance has completed across Larimer County, and it is part of a larger strategy to position communities for significant implementation funding. Nearby, the Red Feather Lakes Area Wildfire Defense Project shows what that can look like. Funded by a USDA Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) and guided by existing CWPPs, that project is bringing roadway and forest treatments, home ignition zone assistance, evacuation planning, and woody biomass solutions to neighboring communities. Having a current, community-supported CWPP in place is what makes this kind of funding possible. Learn more about the Red Feather Lakes Area project.

This CWPP was funded through the Northern Colorado Fireshed Collaborative's Fireshed Fund and is part of a broader wildfire resilience strategy for Northern Colorado, one that connects local planning to landscape-scale action. 🔥 What's our Greenville TLS Crew up to?

The crew has been working in Florida, where they are collecting fuels data for land managers of military installations. The data will be used to help the managers monitor and burn their land more efficiently and effectively. The pictures show crewmembers collecting data after running the LiDAR scanner and measuring tree size and density in a stand.

They have also been using LiDAR to quantify fuels in the USFS’s Bent Creek Experimental Forest. This project’s goal is to investigate how Hurricane Helene impacted fuel loading.

TEA’s Daniel Gualtieri will be one of the instructors for the upcoming Certified Burner Level “B” course hosted along side FACO and DFPC at Redwing Ranch in Gardner, CO. This complete CCBB course curriculum is designed as a foundation to enable students to receive basic introductory training in the planning, design and implementation of low complexity “pile” burning projects and an understanding of project complexity.

Upon completion of this entire online and in-person course, students will demonstrate, through exercises and a final exam, an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective low complexity Certified Burner “B” and/or Burn Boss Type 3. Once successfully completed, the student will be able to apply to join the Colorado Certified Burner Program as a Certified Burner Level “B” (CCBB).

Metz is a recent graduate of Central Connecticut State University, holding a Bachelor’s in Geography. A native of South Carolina, Metz has both educational and field background in GIS and environmental science across the East Coast. Prior to joining the Ember Alliance team, Metz has been involved with the sailing community and Scouting. In their free time, Metz enjoys boating, supporting local live music, and traveling off the beaten path.

These before and afters come from our chainsaw-wielding Uwharrie crew. They recently set out to remove a large oak that had fallen, blocking traffic along a popular OHV trail. If trees aren't cleared quickly, visitors will often go around them, establishing their own "social trails" in the forest. This new unregulated traffic can increase both erosion and potential damage to sensitive or protected areas.
