Coco fka Abby
April 2, 2021

Hi, my name is Coco but I was surrendered as Abby. I am 28lbs, about 14 months, and we believe a V-mix. I have a reddish coat with brindle markings on my back with white patches on the front of my chest.

In my short life I have already been through 3 homes before I was surrendered to the Pikes Peak Region Human Society. Unfortunately, one of the homes I landed in was a home where I suffered abuse. The most recent owner who surrendered me says I wasn’t leaving their small dog alone and was playing really rough with him. But otherwise, they thought I was a great puppy and was already housetrained in the short time they had me.

The shelter recognized that I had some anxiety from fear and lack of socialization and that I needed some stability in my life. So luckily for me they contacted 2nd Chance Vizsla Rescue and I am now being fostered with a great couple who has been patient, loving, and taken the time to work with me and given me my cool new name, Coco.

My foster parents say I am very energetic and would do well in a home where I could go hiking and running. They also think I would do well in agility training or lure coursing…I can sail over a 4-to-5-foot fence from a standing position. I have been around their older dogs and have been introduced to their cat. Other than really trying to get the older dogs to play with me, I haven’t shown any aggressive behavior with the cat or the dogs. I also love playing with their grandson and especially like how fun it is to play with him in a tunnel. I zoom around the back yard 2 or 3 times a day. Now, I am a chewer, especially of plastic toys and I am a digger and will need more time in training. However, I will sit on command now and I have gotten used to being in a kennel. I am also spayed and up to date on my vet work.

Thanks to my patient 2CVR foster parents I am ready to find my new and forever home where I can play to my heart’s content and give you lots of love in return!

Yure

Hello, I am Yure (Yur-E) a 3-year-old 47 lbs female. How much V is in me – we don’t know. Although I am more chestnut brown than golden rust, I look and act very much like a purebred Vizsla. I do know I lived with a family for a short time in Pueblo, CO before they surrendered me to the Foothills Animal Shelter for constantly being nervous, cowering, peeing when I cowered, and snapping.

I am being fostered in Albuquerque by Kevin with his 3 vizsla girls, Stella, Gigi, and Tara and it only took me just around an hour or so for me to relax and gain trust and be part of Kevin’s Vizsla Household. My previous owners thought I wasn’t housetrained because I had accidents when nervous, but I was just scared. My foster dad says I am very sweet as well as very active and that I have been an excellent house guest and very well behaved. He also says I am perfectly house trained and during the past 3 months or so he has not seen any evidence of nervousness, cowering, or snapping.

Like all vizslas, I am a snuggler! I love snuggling with my sisters and foster dad on the big chair in the TV room. I love to run with my V sisters off leash in the soccer field by our home and I love to hike on trails in New Mexico. I also like playing with all their dog toys! I’m a typical young birdy vizsla and enjoy running after roadrunners and rabbits. I really enjoy going camping, in fact I have gone on 4 fun camping trips! I do listen to a whistle or verbal command to return but it’s best to keep me on a leash when walking on city sidewalks. I also know the verbal commands for sit and stay. I am not fond of a bath in the tub; but ok with baths outside using a bucket.

Kevin says I would be a great Vizsla companion for someone that lives in a rural area or has a large yard and/or spends a lot of time outdoors. I love to run, and I am very friendly with other dogs and meeting new people. He has not observed me around kids or cats, so we don’t know. I have not exhibited any signs of food aggression or separation anxiety while home alone with my foster sisters. I am spayed and up to date on shots and am Heartworm negative.

So, there you have it folks. I am Yure and I am ready to be yours and find my forever home with a V loving family.

Are you the family Yure is looking for? If so, Please visit our website at http://www.2ndchancevizslarescue.org/ and fill out an adoption application so Yure can go to her new home. Please remember, WE DO NOT SHIP OUR DOGS

Bear fka Fred/Red
January 31, 2021 - April 14, 2021

A giant came to live with us back in February via an epic effort by our New Mexico volunteers. His mom had a new baby with genetic defects and while he had to stay in Silver City his mom and new baby remained in the hospital in Albuquerque. With Red struggling with his temporary quarters and no sign in sight of getting to return to Silver City, his mom made the difficult decision to do what was best for Red and surrendered him to 2nd Chance Vizsla Rescue.

Red had the face of a Vizsla but weighed 80 pounds and his bones were big and heavy. Standing on his hind legs he was over five feet tall. He was ill-mannered, had been in two different dog pounds prior to his latest adoption, and was being given up again at the age of three years. Not a great start.

His weight, size and exuberance made him almost impossible to control. We dug in and started down a very bumpy road to fostering a maniac. I pulled out my copy of “Dealing With Difficult Dogs” and started chipping away. His name was Red but we called him Fred. He didn’t come anyway so it didn’t matter what we called him. For all his flaws he was very social and loved playing with other dogs. We have a French Bull Dog, and Fred would play with her for hours, always gentle, conscious of her small size.

After three months Fred had learned some manners and landed a permanent gig in Montana with a lady who speaks fluent Vizsla. She’s the perfect mom! He has a new name, Bear, two dogs and two horses to hang out with. I last heard that he was doing well - going on trail rides, playing with his buddies, cruising around the stable. Our big boy is living the dream!

Dani
PS - We did a DNA test on Bear and are awaiting results. Any guesses?
