Vet Treks Foundation

Vet Treks Foundation Vet Treks builds veterinary capacity in underserved areas of Kenya through education and the provision of equipment and supplies to local veterinarians.

Our crews experience REAL Kenya! The work of Vet Treks is based on the One Health concept that the wellbeing of animals, the environment, and people/public health, are not competing interests, but rather are all interrelated. We believe that improvements in all of these areas are substantially advanced with the provision of adequate veterinary services in communities of need. We take crews of vets

, vet techs, and animal welfare workers to Kenya to provide services that are urgently needed (such as community-wide spay/neuter services and rabies vaccination campaigns). While doing so, we work closely with local NGO's and local vets to teach them how to provide these same services after we are gone, and then leave them with donated instruments and supplies needed to sustain animal care within the community. Our crews get to see "real" Kenya and interact with Kenyans in small communities away from the tourist areas in the process of providing our services. When our work is done, we stay on to enjoy world-class safari adventures. Vet Treks: "Travel As A Force For Good"

This World Veterinary Day we celebrate and appreciate all the veterinarians that have volunteered with us over the years!

110 veterinarians and support crew members have traveled to Kenya to provide over 1,200 sterilization surgeries and over 8,000 rabies vaccinations with partners in its first 10 years. There is much work left to be done in the animal health world and we are grateful to our veterinarians and volunteers that keep serving for global animal welfare.

Today we honor veterinarians all over the Planet who do so much too keep our pets, livestock, and wildlife safe and healthy, and by extension contribute positively to environmental and public health. Veterinary care is so important and the mission of Vet Treks is to expand veterinary capacity in underserved area areas. Thanks to all who have helped us accomplish that mission for a decade now. Hug a Vet today!

The AVMA proudly joins the World Veterinary Association (WVA), HealthforAnimals, and colleagues from around the world in celebrating World Veterinary Day. The 2026 theme is “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health.”

From farm to fork, veterinarians are at the frontline of ensuring that food of animal origin is safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced. Their work protects consumers, supports sustainable food systems, prevents zoonotic diseases, and strengthens global health security. World Veterinary Day 2026 aims to elevate public understanding and policy recognition of veterinary services as a cornerstone of sustainable and secure food systems.

Every time our volunteers finish a clinic, they hand over surgical tools to the local veterinarians who will keep the work going.
