FoCo Trash Mob FoCo Trash Mob works alongside national and international organizations to reduce Single Use Plastics (SUPs) by providing advocacy and actionable solutions.

We educate, encourage legislation, and nudge corporations to stop their SUPPY ways! Maureen worked for her County and City in Waste Reduction and Recycling for over 10 years. FoCo Trash Mob was an idea that came to her because:

She had many people approach her where she worked, waving their clamshells and exclaiming: “Why are you saying these aren’t recyclable? It says so right here!” ...pointing to the chasing arrows with a number 1 inside them. She watched the documentary by Frontline entitled “Plastic Wars” and had steam coming out of her ears upon learning the history of how the plastics industry subverted the public’s outcry to their pollution. She mulled over the idea of what a “Flash Mob” might look like if it had an environmental purpose, and thought - “Hey, what about a Trash Mob?” At the end of which the crowd would disperse and mail back the same item to the same place at the same time. She imagined how quickly packaging would change to be truly sustainable if people just sent it BACK to the “parent company!” That’s where the collaboration with Break Free From Plastic began. They do annual plastic audits and encourage a send-back. Then Maureen recruited a few other angry “Mobilizers” to get this going. We hope you will join us in this simple act of defiance against all the trash we create, purchase and “throw away,” when we know there is no “away.”

This is my 6th birthday party. It's 1987 and Care Bears were very much in vogue.

Nearly 40 years later, the tableware from that party is still sitting in a landfill somewhere.

The paper from the plates may be close to gone by now. The plastic coating is still there, along with the plastic cups and straws, and those cups could last another 400 years.

Even then they won't disappear. Plastic breaks into smaller and smaller pieces that stay in our soil and water.

That's why I help hundreds of people around the world run party kits of reusable tableware. Birthdays and other milestones deserve celebrating. They bring people joy and bring them together. A party shouldn't leave behind waste that outlives everyone who was there.

📣 FoCo Trash Mob joined the national Beyond Plastics campaign last Saturday with visits to two noncompliant Starbucks stores in . We shared reuse information with customers, spoke with managers, and encouraged stores to offer ‘for-here’ cups and support personal cup use. ☕️🥤

One manager committed to reminding baristas to ask, “For here or to go?” and post signage about ceramic-mug options. Local action matters … and it’s working! 💪

We don’t need a gas-powered Constitution! At first glance, Amendment 82 may seem like it is about upholding the rights of the humble consumer, but, in reality, it is a bid by the fossil fuel industry and large corporate polluters to future-proof their profits and keep Colorado locked in to a dirty, killer industry without recourse and regulation.

🚨 HAPPENING THIS SUNDAY 🚨: Join us for the Ride to a Refillery, a no‑drop bike ride Sistainable Mercantile & Refillery in Timnath! Riders will get a firsthand look at how refilling everyday essentials cuts down on single‑use plastics.

We’ll roll out from Edora Park at 9:30 a.m. and arrive a little before 10:30. No purchase required, and a chance to learn, connect, and explore low‑waste living together!
