BwindiCommunityProgram.org Bwindi Community Program (BCP) is an all-volunteer US 501c3 non proft organization dedicated to helping the children of Bwindi, Uganda thru education.

Life is hard in rural Uganda. Very hard. The scourges of HIV AIDS, malaria, TB, malnutrition all contribute to death and hopelessness. Children without food and sometimes without any place to sleep will only have a future through education. BCP has found good schools in which a sponsored child will thrive and grow strong. From primary education through secondary, vocational and even, in some cases

, university, we provide a way for sponsors and donors to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children. Our focus is secondary education and higher. BCP provides an opportunity for sponsors world wide to help in a variety of ways, some on-going, some one time only. Some contributions help with infrastructure, some with needed items like transportation to the secondary or vocational schools and emergency assistance. There is no amount of money too small (nor too large :) - we welcome questions, participation, and can even advise you on a visit to Uganda where you can also trek to see the mountain gorillas. Bwindi is a magical place - if you have food and a future,

The last time that the Bwindi Community Program students were together in 2023 was a joyous one. They met for one last time to say "Good Bye". They will meet again to share their Holiday Stories in January. We wish them a successful Break.

This happy young woman studied Hotel Management and Catering at one of the best schools. Now she has been hired by one of the best resorts on Lake Victoria. We celebrate Mariam for all her hard work to achieve her Diploma and the reward of her efforts, finding a career position at a fine resort. Hooray! She is a fine example of seizing the opportunity of a sponsorship and making it work.

It takes a great team to keep Bishop Comboni functioning. Nothing lasts forever and the 40-year-old generator proved that. The beautiful new unit will light the campus whenever local power fails; ensuring the safety of all the students, teachers, etc. It lit up for the first time recently after being hauled to its new location, being installed and powered up when it was needed. Hooray for the teamwork of all involved!

Ready to tackle the world! These fresh faces of the BCP-sponsored S1 students met to share a moment and a few laughs. The overalls are their apparel for the vocational class each has chosen. They have one vocational class along with their academics.

New campus, new challenges, time to manage in order to get it all done - having friends in the same situation really does help. And, a good laugh is wonderful!

We are so grateful for the wonderful sponsors who have stayed with students during the chaos of the pandemic and the difficult time of readjustment to academic life. We applaud their thoughtful kindness as students regained their stride toward goals that seemed out of reach in 2020 and 2021. All the students are in their classrooms. They are striving for excellence and, with the help of sponsors, they will achieve their goals. Hooray for our extraordinary sponsors from around the world! Three cheers for the students who made them proud!

We are so proud of the entrepreneur who is now starting a metal-working business. To successfully run a business is a terrific use of his sponsored education. Mubaraka has trained mechanics in his original business, which is still operating and going strong. Now a new venture into metal working will be giving another type of boost to local youth, employing them in a new trade.
He is a very bright businessman who passes his skills along to the young men in the village who have not had an opportunity to attend vocational school. Kudos to his wonderfully generous nature!

Happy New Year! Thank You! To all the sponsors who have made a huge impact on students' lives in 2022 and the past 13 years, we say "you are terrific". The pictured graduates, who have reached their goals and will enter their field of expertise in 2023, range from an Art Teacher, to Midwives, to an Accountant with a Finance Degree and a Nurse with her Diploma. These grateful young men and women will be productive members of society because sponsors cared and nurtured them along the way. They are only four of eleven students who graduated in December. We are so proud of all of them! It is indeed a Happy New Year.

Online study is a reality for the coming break during December and January! The Bishop Comboni old students contributed a website. The teachers loved the opportunity for online study during breaks. They created an online study program. The sponsored students will now have smartphones to take advantage of this when they leave school.
The school closures have taken a huge toll on performance. The best way to lessen this impact is to devote time online to weak subjects during breaks. Thanks to the generous sponsors who have provided this wonderful tool. Phones, and the efforts of the teachers who designed the programs, will help students attain their full potential.

Aderah has made us proud once again! While waiting for her official documents for her Diploma in Nursing from Mengo Hospital School of Nursing, she has taken a course in Gerontology from the Harvey Institute. Insight into the unique problems among the older population will make her even more desirable as an employee! Shown here as she graduates, that smile says it all!

Comboni Day was spectacular, as usual. The cutting of the cake by the founder of the school, Fr. Paolini with Bro Kato and minister Dr. Barymunsi Chris was a highlight.

A prayer was said for Jim Tanis on his passing, September 30th.
A beautiful day on a beautiful campus. We cherish our 12-year relationship with this terrific school.

Love our self-motivated students! Aderah had just reached the end of her Diploma studies at Mengo Hospital Nursing School when she found an opportunity to study while she waits to formally receive her Degree. She is enrolled in an International Certificate Course in Gerontology. The community of elders and the students involved both benefit from education in how life changes for the elderly. Challenges are different in advanced age. The opportunities for learning never stop!

Vocational training and certification is going full speed ahead at Bishop Comboni. This is the first set of exams (UBTEB) and these Electrical students will have more in December. It is time to prove that they understand and can do the job! There is something very satisfying about the ex*****on of an assignment. At the end of three years, the reward will be a full Certificate in the Vocational subject of choice. Each student who registers on campus now must participate in one course. They will really appreciate the acquisition of these skills, no matter their educational path; a new respect for the job done well. Perhaps this will even be the career they choose!
