Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics

Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics The Larry Spring Museum is open Wednesdays - Saturdays noon until 4 or by appointment.

Larry Spring was a Fort Bragg original who in the spirit of amateur inquiry, constructed scientific experiments and artworks using available materials. Larry’s varied creations, collections and inventions overlap folk and outsider art and science. The museum’s eccentric offerings celebrate the individual impulse to understand our universe.

Happy May Day!

Create and share your seed stories, and contribute to a growing collection of uses for non-native plants

Got a use for an out-of-balance, overly prolific plant like Gorse, Scotch broom, or Pampas grass? Have a seed story you’d like to share? Visit the Field of Dreams: Seed Project at the Larry Spring Museum on First Friday, where you are invited to work on a seed timeline and collect uses for non-native plants that are much in need of harvest.

Happy Earth Day!

Tune your ears toward a wetland.

Join the Field of Dreams: Local Seed Project in the Museum this First Friday. They begin their Seed Timelines residency with a metaphorical seed, an offering: a wish to walk today in such a way that we are good ancestors of tomorrow.

How do we measure the weight of time held in a seed?

Together we will make a decorative hangings with seed beads and paper cranes. Inspired by the Japanese folkloric tradition of senbazuru (1000 cranes), this practice now signifies prayers for peace and healing.

Technologies of Intuition: Uncommon Sense!
With Nathan Maxwell Cann

What happens when common sense is cut to pieces? As part of the new Technologies of Intuition series, this Friday’s gathering is a small, analog experiment in knowing without knowing. This First Friday, join a collaborative cut-up poetry session using Larry Spring’s own Common Sense Physics book as raw material. Together we’ll cut, shuffle, and recombine its language into collective poetry, letting words will themselves out of order. A low-stakes ritual of chance, scissors, and shared attention. No expertise required. FREE!
