These photos are from last spring when Jake and I built new benches at the top of Sweet Pea. Thanks for Erik Wahl from CalFire for supplying a couple pieces of wood.

Jake is a member of our chainsaw crew, along with Nick Tylor and Marc Jensen. They help clean up all the big wood that comes down on the trails in JDSF. If you would like to become certified and join our chainsaw crew, let Marc or I know.

Fun day this past Saturday with the Jackson Forest Hopper running over 200 strong. This is the feed station at the top of Sweet Pea, hosted by the Mendocino Composite youth team. Big shout out to Myke Berna for getting the team out for the feed station and the bike wash at the Caspar Community Center.

Hello. Hello? Say, friend, you look a bit hungry. We have just the thing for you!

Saturday 3/28/2026 we’re gathering up at The Scales at 9:30am. We’ll be teaming up with CalFIRE to eradicate the invasive broom alongside Rd500.
We’ll work until 12:30 when we’ll retreat back to the Scales where Club Treasurer and BBQ Chef Extraordinaire will be grilling up some FREE BBQ goodies starting at 1pm.

So come join us for all or some of the fun. We’d love to see the riding community enjoying the beautiful day.

Keep an eye out for no good dirtbags dumping garbage off the side of the forest roads. Been a major issue this past summer and such a pain to clean up.

Mendocino County, CA closed Road 500,
between County Road 408 and JDSF Road 600, effective immediately.
The closure is due to an increase in illegal trash dumping along Road 500, County Road 408, and other forest
roads. Closing the road will also help prevent damage during wet weather
infrastructure.
During the closure, motorized vehicles are not allowed, including motorcycles and ATVs, in accordance with
California regulations. However, the road remains open for non-motorized use, such as walking, biking, and
horseback riding.
JDSF staff will continue cleanup efforts and evaluate long-term solutions. Road 500 will reopen once
conditions improve, and the dumping issue is addressed.
Visitors are encouraged to help keep the forest clean by packing out trash and reporting illegal dumping.

New sign at the trail modification on Ride-Thru. We had a lively community discussion on the listserv about users modifying trails to make them easier to ride. The consensus was pretty strong that we like having those challenges.

The 3rd photo is an example of a welcome enhancement; a new roller section on Ride-Thru that keeps us out of the mud and adds a bit of character, courtesy of Erik.

Congratulations to Ukiah Valley Trail Group for getting the green light to build some trails in Ukiah. Will be an excellent addition to the City.

Last night the Ukiah City Council approved our Lookout Peak Trail project! Our team will start finalizing and flagging the trail alignments in the next few weeks and we likely will devote our first trail day of the year (October 25th) to clearing trail alignments. Our goal is to get the 4 mile Gateway loop completed and ready for a grand opening by next summer. Special thanks to the over sixty people who wrote letters of support and those of you who attended and spoke in favor of the project at the City Council meeting. That support is what got us over the finish line despite the opposition of a few neighbors.
Now the best way to support the project is with your donations. Please attend our upcoming Gala in the Street and consider an end of year donation. The faster we raise the money, the faster we can get these trails built!

Enjoying the view? Attend the Gala and bid on this excursion to Lookout Peak and enjoy a gourmet dinner overlooking our beautiful town 🌙 ✨ Tickets are selling fast, get yours today: www.mendotrails.org

Grrrrrr this sucks. WAC is just trying to build some beautiful beginner friendly trails and someone steals an important trail tool. Booooo!

****STOLEN ***
WAC was out tuning up the new beginner loop today and noticed that our plate compactor had been taken. We would love to be able to finish this trail for the kids and beginning mountain bikers in Willits, and this piece of equipment is vital. Replacing it will be a large financial blow to our small all-volunteer organization. It was taken sometime in the past week or so. It is very heavy and somone definitely needed a plan and a buddy to remove it. If you have any information please contact us. Otherwise, our trail day went great and we are close to finishing the main loop!!
