Mendocino Coast Clinics

Mendocino Coast Clinics Mendocino Coast Clinics is a non-profit, community-based health center. In 2009, the geriatric practice affiliated with the organization.

Overview and History
Mendocino Coast Clinics is a true example of a grass roots organization, with historical roots as a free clinic to being a community based health clinic operated by a patient driven not for profit Board of Directors for nearly 30 years. Medical care was the driving force as the clinic transitioned from the Mendocino County Health Department to the nonprofit Mendocino Coast Cli

nics. Initially focusing on primary and preventative care, services have grown to include wellness exams, diabetes education, podiatry and dermatology. Behavioral Health Care was added in 1995 and has grown from providing counseling to also to including Behavioral Medicine with psychiatric consultations, psychopharmacology, suboxone treatment for opiate addiction and pain management. In 2010 case management services were added for these patients as well as for homeless people. In 1997, the health problems related to the lack of accessible dental care motivated MCC to add dental care as another major component of the organization for adults and children. In 2005, MCC assumed the obstetrical and gynecology providers which also included perinatal services, childbirth classes and breastfeeding support. In 2010, MCC opened the Teen Clinic, now Blue Door@MCC, offering an array of health care, services and education to local youth. In 2011, the local pediatric practice affiliated with MCC bringing specialized care and service to the community’s infants, children and young adults. In 2013, the Liz Irwin Wing, funded by the Affordable Care Act, was opened. The Mendocino Coast Clinics’ service area runs along 50 miles of rural and geographically isolated portions of the northern California coast in Mendocino County. MCC mission is to build a healthy community by providing patient-centered health care to all coastal residents.

Cheers to our amazing dental staff! We recently received a lovely letter from a grateful dental patient, saying "I am writing to thank the Dental Clinic employees for their outstanding work, especially Winifred Lee, DDS, Rosa Hernandez, Ana in the office, Cheyanne, Anna, Andrea and the receptionist Lizandra who are always cheerful and nice.

Rosa Hernandez is exceptional as manager and dental assistant. I really believe she could run both clinics, medical and dental. And no, I am not an acquaintance or friend of hers to be saying this. It's just that the clinic is very well run and organized with hardly any waiting time.

This is my 2nd experience of obtaining dentures. This time for the bottom ones. I had bottom teeth extracted and beautiful new ones restored. Dr. Lee did a magnificent job.

So many thanks to all."

We’re so grateful to our dental team for the care, compassion, and dedication they show our patients every day. Thank you for making a difference, one smile at a time!

One of MCC's most beloved providers, Linnea Matthews, celebrated an incredible 50 years of nursing today! Yes, that's half a CENTURY!

We surprised Linnea with a taco bar in our conference room, decorated festively for the occasion, along with gifts and lots of hugs and love. Linnea has worked in this community for 40 years, giving so much to all of us. We were thrilled to celebrate this amazing milestone with Linnea, and we are so lucky to work with her!

Don't know what to do with all that zucchini? MCC's Registered Dietitian Susie has the perfect (and delicious) answer: easy zucchini fritters! They are low carb, but high flavor. Enjoy!

Zucchini Fritters

2 medium zucchini
3 ounces of Parmesan cheese, grated
1 ounce of almond flour
2 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil

Grate the zucchini into a brand new dish cloth, or muslin cloth, and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.

Mix the drained zucchini, Parmesan , almond flour, eggs, salt, and pepper together in a bowl and allow to sit for a couple of minutes. This lets the almond meal soak up some liquid and prevents the fritter from tasting dry and grainy.

Pour olive oil into a frying pan over medium heat and scoop 1/4 cup of the fritter mix into the hot oil, pushing gently into a flattened, round shape in the pan and fry. You may need to cook these in a couple of batches, depending on the size of your pan.

After 2-3 minutes gently flip the fritters over and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Top with sour cream and chopped parsley or green onions if desired.
