Good evening FBGSA families,
I wanted to take a moment to review the outcome of last night's playoff game between Los Gallitos and Mendocino Jams. The game ended with confusion and a mistake. It came to the attention of the umpire and scorekeeper that playoff games are a full 6 inning game, not our regular season time limit of 1 1/2 hours. This discovery came after the umpire called the game at time limit, with Los Gs taking the win.
The Parliamentarian was called to confirm the FBGSA Policies & Procedures (P&P) and ruling. The initial reaction was to continue the game but families were ready to go home. Another option presented was to meet at a later date and play the final two innings. This option was considered, at the time, to try to be in compliance with the P&P and was subsequently eliminated after reviewing the USA Softball rules regarding protest.
The Parliamentarian brought the issue to the executive board, consisting of the Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The President was omitted as her daughter is on one of the teams involved.
After thorough review of the P&P, USA Softball Rules, and conversations with additional parties involved, the executive board determined the game is complete as called by the umpire. All upcoming playoff/championship games will be played as indicated in our P&P, 6 innings with no time limit.
Looking into the situation, we have identified several mistakes that we are working on correcting. While we cannot take back the confusion and frustration of last night, we can treat this as a learning opportunity and look forward to the final games of the season with clarity
I also wanted to ask parents to please remind your players that this was a tough situation. Whatever decision, a team was going to have hurt feelings. Part of the game is sportsmanship and learning to lose with dignity and win with grace.
The final game for Minors will be Friday between Los Gallitos and Fort Bragg Towing! Come cheer on the girls in the championship game!
