-Update-October 15, 2025
This issue has been resolved as of yesterday evening (October 14, 2025). We extend our sincere appreciation to the Tribal Utility Authority for their quick response and efforts in addressing this matter. Their hard work and corrective actions help keep our waters safe.

Please be advised that WMAT Water Resources has identified raw sewage entering the East Fork River, originating from the Stago’s Curve Lift Station. The Tribal Utility Authority is currently on site and working to address the issue.

For public safety, we strongly advise everyone to avoid the downstream area highlighted in red on the map. Please do not swim, wade, or come into contact with the water until further notice.

We will provide updates once repairs are complete and water quality conditions improve.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

On June 12, 2025, south of the Cibecue Junction Turnoff, near US 60 and BIA Road 12 Junction, a fuel tanker overturned, spilling thousands of gallons of diesel and unleaded gasoline, some of which seeped into the ground. Our Water Resources team was immediately on site to ensure proper best management practices (BMPs) were followed to protect our waterways from long term contamination that might affect cattle, wildlife, and overall forest health.
We’re not just monitoring water; we’re out there during emergencies, helping with land rehabilitation, erosion control, and ensuring that any cleanup work doesn’t cause further damage.
Please be aware that US 60 near the site is currently reduced to one lane. The cleanup may take about a month, so drive safely and stay alert.
