Senior Friendship Community Garden

If you have driven by the Senior Friendship Community Garden, you saw the garden is open for business. We have rented out the original 40-50 beds, but we have an additional 11 beds ready for soil. And that's what I want to talk to you about today.

We have the soil and mulch ready to go, but we are looking for someone who has and runs a skidsteer or bobcat to fill the beds. We are able to pay, but because we are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, unfortunately our pockets are not lined with gold. So, if you have a small dirt loading piece of eqipment with a motor on it and wheels, and believe in our vision and mission, could you message me or call Glenda at (417)844-2113.

We had an awesome Grand Opening yesterday at the Senior Friendship Community Garden.

Marsha, Denise, Debbie and Mark visited with interested gardners and rented some of the beds for the 2026 growing season.

We have 40 beds for rent for the 2026 season. We have 35 beds that are 6 ft long by 3 ft wide. 20 of the beds are 15 inches tall and 15 of the beds are 27 inches tall. We have 5 beds that are 8 foot by 3 foot and 30 inches tall.

The 6 foot beds are $25 each and the 8 foot beds are $35 each.

When you rent your bed(s) you will receive a beautiful Senior Friendship Community Garden Bag filled with a variety of seeds and helpful gardening information from the MU Extension office.

When I posted a few days ago, I did not mention where our Senior Friendship Community Garden is located. It located adjacent to the Forsyth Mo Farmers and Artisans Market - Local Harvest on the Oremus Road side.

Our address is 11048 E. Highway 76, Powersite. We are in the city limits of Forsyth but Google Maps has us listed as Powersite. If using Google Maps please be sure to type in Powersite, not Forsyth, otherwise it takes you to the wrong place. Basically a wild goose chase.

The Senior Friendship Community Garden is having its GRAND OPENING this Saturday, October 11th!! Come and sign up and reserve your Raised Garden Bed for the 2026 growing season.

We have a total of 40 raised beds. They are 6 foot long by 3 foot wide. There are two different heights, 15 inches and 30 inches.
They will be filled with very good dirt and mulch, ready for planting. We will also have larger beds for the experienced garden.

The rental fee is $25 for each bed and covers the entire growing season.

The Garden Committee is planning on opening the garden in March, but you will need to bring your own water until there is no chance of a freeze. Our water lines are not deep so they can be more susceptible to freezing.

We have included pictures of the garden and the fall crop the Garden Commitee has planted.

Don't miss this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. Come and reserve your bed and talk gardening with members of our Garden Committee.

Walls are going up!!! We would like to thank SD Construction and Remodel LLC for teaming up with us to build the walls for the Senior Friendship Community Garden. Shawn and Deidre are fantastic people to work with. If you are in need of a professional, trustworthy, and reliable construction team you can contact them at 417-239-6056.

And we also want to say thank you for all of the community support in this project. This garden is about bringing our community together. A chance for everyone to meet new people and make new friends. And also the opportunity for them to grow their own fruits, vegetables, flowers, and so many other things that they might not be able to at their current place of residence.

We would like to give a big shout out to David Koenig with David Koenig Excavating for getting the first phase of the Senior Friendship Community Garden completed today!!! We will be begin building the walls later this week. Please stay tuned for more updates!!!

Hello Everyone!!
Check out our New page for the Senior Friendship Community Garden. We will be posting the progress of the construction of the garden. Board of Directors Member, Brandon Bekemeier, who is the "chief builder", tells us we should be ready to go for the April 5th Small Animal and Plant Start Sale. Great news!!

Brandon will be posting pictures of the work and progress.

The Garden Committee has been working very hard in planning and designing probably one of the best, if not the best Community Garden, in the area. The rent for a raised bed will be $25 for the entire growing season. The size of beds are as follows:
6'x3'x30" tall and 6'x3'x15" tall. We will also have some short round beds.

When you rent a bed(s) you will receive a packet full of gardening tips, rules of the garden, some packets of seeds, lots of fun and interesting stuff.

We will be posting the application for the bed rental very soon.

We also need volunteers who could give us a few hours of their time to help with different duties for the garden.
