Do not drink it -

UPDATE 11/13 at 3:54 pm: The boil water notice has been lifted.

The City of Forney has issued a boil water notice for residents in the neighborhoods of Overland Grove, Grayhawk, and Dalview Estates, as well as Johnson Elementary due to a temporary loss in water pressure experienced Monday evening. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires that all water distributed from our public water systems must be treated, disinfected, and tested to meet standards to protect public health.

To ensure the safety of all, it is recommended that all water for consumption, including drinking, cooking, and making ice, should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil for two minutes. Alternatively, bottled water may be used. Adults can continue to shower as long as no water is swallowed. Children or infants should have sponge baths with water that has been boiled. Out of an abundance of caution, Johnson Elementary will be providing bottled water for all of the students and their cafeteria staff will adapt to ensure lunch service will continue as planned in a safe and healthy way.

The City of Forney is diligently flushing water mains and collecting water samples to ensure water quality and safety. Each household will receive one case of bottled water, available for pick-up at the amenity center in each subdivision. We anticipate clear sample results by Wednesday, November 13, 2024, and will provide updates as soon as they are available.

For further questions or concerns, please contact the City of Forney’s Public Works Department at 972-552-6695.

Cold weather advice from City -

As we head into winter, the City of Forney would like to share some helpful information so that city and surrounding residents can maintain an adequate water supply. We will start with an update on the state of our water system. We have two water pump stations that supply water to our system; however, one of those stations is currently shut down for repairs being made by our water supplier, North Texas Municipal Water District, and will not be available again until Spring. Therefore, to ensure an adequate water supply for both Forney residents and the four other water companies we provide water to, we are asking for your help to ease the demand on the water system by following some of these helpful tips.

First, know that in the past two years we have had severe winter storms that have kept temperatures below freezing for a week at a time. During those periods, we have learned that if you take the proper steps to winterize your property then there is a low risk of pipes bursting as most water lines are well insulated and/or below the freeze line. Second, there is not a need to keep water continuously running to keep your water line from freezing. The amount of time and degree of severity that temperatures are below freezing make a big difference. It is important to keep in mind that running water while performing daily chores, such as showering, washing dishes, flushing the toilet, and washing your hands, helps keep water flowing through your pipes at a much faster rate than a drip and can help prevent excessively high water bills. If it has been a few hours without any water being used, then you can turn on the faucet in your house that is the farthest from the water meter full blast for a minute or two so that it pulls water at a fast rate all the way through the house. You can also open cabinet doors under sinks, cover any exposed pipes outside the house, and drain irrigation.

NTMWD Thanks the Public for Efforts to Reduce Outdoor Water Use and Continues Call for Conservation Amid Persistent Drought.

WYLIE, TX – July 27, 2022: The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) thanks the public and its Member Cities and Customers for conserving water while critical maintenance was completed last week at the Wylie Water Treatment Plant Complex which allowed the facility to resume normal operation. Widespread action to reduce water use, especially outdoors, preserved water resources until all work was finished. Although the maintenance activities were completed, aggressive water conservation is still needed as drought conditions and rising demands for water persist. Residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to follow their local water provider’s conservation guidance to reduce outdoor water use. More general water saving tips are available at www.ntmwd.com/SaveWater.

During the Wylie Water Treatment Plant Complex maintenance, NTMWD always met or exceeded all state and federal drinking water quality standards. Through the success of public efforts to reduce outdoor watering, NTMWD continued to meet demands while treatment capacity was temporarily reduced.

β€œWe appreciate the response from the public and our Member Cities and Customers to conserve water during this critical period,” said Jenna Covington, NTMWD Executive Director and General Manager.
