The WSGA honoring another great man in the fishing industry with a honorary Membership who has left us to early. He was a great advocate for the cowlitz river and will be missed.

In Memory of Donald H. Glaser

Donald H. Glaser passed away on January 19, 2021 at his home in Salkum, WA. He was 79 years old.

Don was married for 62 years to his wife, Karen. Together, they owned and operated the Barrier Dam Campground for 32 years.
Don was a longtime advocate of sport fishing in Washington State, namely the Cowlitz River.

Don was the president of Friends of the Cowlitz, an organization dedicated to protecting fishing opportunities on the Cowlitz river. His memory and advocacy for fishing on the Cowlitz will remain in our hearts forever. Fishing was his life’s passion.

Don passed away peacefully with family by his side. He will be greatly missed by his wife Karen, his daughters Corrine and Julie, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild, as well as his dog, Hunter.

At the WSGA executive board meeting February 9th, 2021, the executive board unanimously voted to honor Don with a posthumous perpetual sport angler membership to the Washington State Guides Association.

2021 is upon us and the Washington State Guides Association is rolling already.

Most of you are aware of the Coastal Steelhead issue. The early closure of winter Blackmouth. What else are we about to lose?

The WSGA has been very active this season. We have worked diligently with the Olympic Peninsula Guides Association, the Northwest Olympic Peninsula Sport fishing Coalition, Grays Harbor Guides Association, Grays Harbor Sportfishing Coalition and Hatchery Wild Coexist. We formed a steelhead workgroup to work on steelhead issues and have created some great relationships that will carry us into the future.

We have also worked very closely with multiple state senators and representatives along with the congressional sportsmen foundation from Washington DC. These relationships are getting stronger everyday and the dividends will help us immensely in the future. We have gained tremendous support from so many state legislators, enough that we have direct lines to them and the are answering our calls.

As things seem to be getting tougher it is all the more important that we hear your voices. The bigger the group the bigger the voice.

We would love for you to join the WSGA. That being said we need you to be involved in some group that we can continue to work with. CCA, NSIA, PSA ,Hatchery Wild Coexist, NW Steelheaders or your local guides association. Just join something that you can be engaged in.

Get their emails, Get Their Calls, Get Their Action Alerts.

If you are a guide Join, if you are a client join, if you are a recreational fisherman join. Please just join a group. The small amount of money that any group charges is very little for what they are doing for our future.

The green light has been given to start guiding again with a few limitations. Let's do it right folks

ATTENTION FISHERMAN

Tomorrow is the day, May 5th we get to go fishing again. Unfortunately it comes with some hurdles that need to be adhered to you.
1. Keep social distancing in mind when at boat ramps and docks.
2. For the time being please just fish with your family.
3. Let’s not do any overnight trips, just day trips for now.
4. Please pack out what you pack in, going to be very tough to maintain all the ramps and docks right away.

Folks this is just Phase one of this opening and we all want to get to phase 2 where we can go fishing with friends, go camping and do longer trips and for guides we can get back to work.

I know everybody is worried about WDFW closing things down again. This is possible however most closures will come from local County’s or local government that will complain to WDFW about things they are seeing and don’t like.

The ball is our court and we can win or lose this based on how we act. Please guys and gals let’s do this right so we can get moving ahead

Good evening, all

I have submitted an application for an at-large seat on the WDFW Commission.

If selected, I would be bringing 49 years of experience in virtually all facets of fish and wildlife management. I have a BS in Fisheries Management and Administration from the University of Washington. In 1970, I was employed by the Colorado Division of Wildlife as a Wildlife Conservation Officer and, after 30 of service, I retired as the Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement.

I have worked in all aspects of fish and wildlife management including enforcement, fisheries management, game management, game damage, and budgets. I wrote statutes and regulations for hunting and fishing activities and for guides and outfitters. I supervised complex intra-state, inter-state, and international investigations. I helped develop and establish the International Wildlife Violator Compact now in place in 49 states including Washington, and I helped establish the International Association of Natural Resources Crimestoppers of which the WDFW is a member.

Since my retirement in 2000, I have been active in Puget Sound Anglers and the Coastal Conservation Association. For the past 10 years, I’ve been the volunteer coordinator for the Dungeness Hatchery Complex. I have served on the WDFW Steelhead/Cutthroat Policy Advisory Group, Enforcement Advisory Group (now the Shared Values Group), Puget Sound Recreational Fisheries Enhancement Oversight Committee, and the Puget Sound Sport Fish Advisors Group. I am on the Prey Work Group for the Governor’s Orca Task Force.

On behalf of individual sport fishers, city and county agencies, Puget Sound Anglers, and the Coastal Conservation Association I have been attending Commission, North of Falcon, Pacific Fisheries Management Council, and International Pacific Halibut Commission meetings working towards more fishing opportunities.

If you would like to support my effort to be on the Commission, you can do so by using this direct link to the Governor’s Board.

Please support Dave Croonquist for WDFW Commissioner, Dave would a awesome advocate for Sportfisherman and our fish.

I don’t do politics. Start talking politics at the fish camp and you will get tossed out quicker than a soapy pancake. But I hunt and fish so I think Dave Croonquist should be on Washington's Fish and Wildlife Commission. He has fished Lapush since it was Washington’s fishing hole. Dave knows how good our fisheries used to be and how to rebuild them. He managed wildlife in Colorado for thirty years where they still have some game folks can hunt. He’s got my vote.
