Boy Scouts Troop 26, Past State President, and District Deputy Join Lodge Officers
LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — The officers of Lacey Lodge 2518 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks recently hosted a stirring Flag Day ceremony that brought together community leaders, youth organizations, and Elks members in a moving tribute to the American flag and the freedoms it represents.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of Past State President Richard Bard and District Deputy Greg Scarlato, whose participation lent special distinction to the occasion.
The program opened with Boy Scouts Troop 26 presenting the colors, with each flag carried forward as Past District Deputy Barbara Monti delivered a thoughtful reading of the Flag's history — tracing the journey of the Stars and Stripes from its earliest origins to its place as one of the most recognized symbols of freedom in the world.
As each flag was presented by the Scouts, Past State President Richard Bard delivered the Response, underscoring the reverence and responsibility that comes with honoring the national colors.
The Lodge officers then conducted the Three Stages of the Bell of Freedom, one of the most solemn and meaningful rituals in the Elks tradition. With each stage, officers spoke to the significance of each tier's color and its deeper meaning — a reminder of the values of liberty, sacrifice, and unity that the flag embodies.
The ceremony reached its inspiring finale with the announcement of the winners of the Patriotic Americanism Essay Contest. The first, second, and third place winners each took to the podium to read their winning essays aloud — passionate, heartfelt reflections on what it means to be an American and the enduring significance of the flag that stands as a symbol of the freedom enjoyed by all citizens of this great nation.
From the opening presentation of colors to the final essay reading, the ceremony was a beautiful and unified celebration of the American flag and the ideals it represents — a testament to the dedication of Lacey Lodge 2518 and all who participated in making the event so memorable.
