Krakow, Poland 2024 – Cello Story by Yevgeniy Dovgalyuk

Many months before our departure to Poland, I had inquired with the locals about finding cellos for us to use. In order to bring a cello, the passenger needs to buy an extra seat on the airplane (if it’s checked, it would likely get damaged). We had a need for one full-size and one half-size cello. This was a prayer concern, and I faithfully gave it to God.

A few weeks prior to departure, I did not have confirmation of cellos being secured. I decided to contact personal friends in Poland and Ukraine. I also looked up instrument shops near our location, sent emails, and made phone calls. As we departed for Poland, I told Sara, I’m not sure if there will be a cello for you. Sara is a cello performance major at Liberty University.

We arrived in Poland…there were no cellos. I inquired again with locals and for days we searched and visited various places – there was hope, but we did not find a cello to use. Our first performance was coming up on Friday, and Sara was practicing playing her parts on the keyboard!

That night, I could not sleep. I kept questioning God…why wouldn’t he provide the cellos needed for this trip? I trusted Him, and I didn’t sit around…I did everything possible! I woke up multiple times and wrote down some thoughts. That morning, I got up extra early and went for a prayer walk, reflecting on my thoughts throughout the night. The themes were Dying (3 deaths – Adam/Eve, Christ, us) and Fear of God (fear vs. reverence and authority).

On my walk, I realized that God demanded my complete surrender to His will. My will was for there to be cellos…but, I had to let go of MY will. I had to acknowledge that He is God (fear/reverence/authority), He is in control (dying to myself), and I trust Him no matter how He accomplishes His will.

When we arrived at the church that morning for rehearsals, the pastor said that he found a cello! It belongs to a Ukrainian who is out of town, but her husband gave it to us to use. I was blown away!! We received the full-size cello…it had three strings (missing the A string), did not have a bow, and looked to be in need of a deep cleaning. But, we had a cello!

Sara is a great cellist, she only needed three strings. I had an extra violin bow that she used on the cello. And, she spent a good amount of time cleaning the cello. In the end, God was faithful in providing a cello for Sara to use and I grew in my relationship with Him.

Thank you, God, for continuing to teach us and guide us as You walk alongside us throughout our lives.

Liya Music Camp in Krakow, Poland 2024

Liya Christian Ministry partnered with SALT to present Liya Music Camp across the ocean. A team from the US joined forces with missionaries from Poland, and Ukraine, as well as local Polish and Ukrainian Polish Congregations to grow musically, spiritually, and personally.

We were blessed to be joined by numerous young kids with varied musical abilities. We had four main focuses – Orchestra, Worship, Song Writing, and Tone Chimes. We are thankful to Court Street UMC for letting us borrow a set of Tone Chimes.

Every day was full of music, connections, and growth. There was a total of four performances throughout our time in Poland.
We humbly thank you all for your support in our efforts to impact the world for Christ through the power of music.

Many of you may know that the Liya Christian Ministry plans to have the Liya Music Camp in Poland the week of July 22, 2024. We are excited about this opportunity and invite you to attend an Interest Meeting on Thursday, December 21, at 7 pm. We will meet in person in the Wesley Guild room at Court Street UMC in downtown Lynchburg (621 Court Street). We will also have a virtual option via Zoom. Please let me know if you would like a Zoom link for the meeting.

Due to COVID-19, we could not continue Liya Camp at McLean Bible Church in 2020. However, Liya campers took part in launching SALT that year. My brother, Timofey, is the founder and President of SALT. To learn more about SALT, please visit - https://www.saltmovement.org/. LCM and SALT have partnered in this mission effort.

Timofey will join us via Zoom, and we will provide more information about who we are, what we do, what we plan to do, and most importantly, why we do it.
