Providing a safe, faith-based environment for individuals and families while providing the tools to Calvary Refuge, Inc.

operated as an informal service for Clayton County several years before becoming a non-profit organization in 1985. It was originally located at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest Park, and provided overnight shelter and food for homeless people in the colder months of the year. It continued to operate in this way using loaned space and volunteers until 1995. When the building formerly housing the F

orest Park Presbyterian Church went on the market, Executive Director Donna Taffar and others began a campaign to purchase the church. Funds were raised throughout 1996, and the property was purchased in March of the following year. The center has been remodeled and features a central dining area and kitchen, and 14 living units that resemble modest hotel accommodations for use of transitional families.In May of 1998, construction started on a facility for emergency overnight occupation. The night shelter was dedicated the following year and now operates as a year round refuge for the homeless in the South Metro area of Atlanta.

🎒 Back-to-School Family Fun Day! 🎒

A big thank you to Bethany Christian Services for hosting a wonderful Back-to-School Family Fun Day on Saturday, August 8th! Calvary Refuge was proud to serve as a community sponsor for this special event.

We always enjoy getting out into the community, meeting new people, and sharing more about Calvary Refuge and the services we provide to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. 💙

We were also excited to have Jada Howard, the inaugural Miss College Park, stop by our table! Jada’s platform focuses on connecting people with valuable community resources, and we appreciate her commitment to making a difference.

And, of course, we enjoyed some delicious food from The Varsity Food Truck and cooled off with some ice cream! 🌭🍦

We are proud to share that Calvary Refuge Center Executive Director, Keisha Zimmerman, recently served as a panelist at the Clayton County Affordable Housing Summit hosted by Clayton State University.

The summit brought together community leaders for a day of inspiring conversations, collaboration, and practical solutions focused on advancing affordable housing.

Thank you to Clayton State University for hosting this important event and for bringing our community together to help create lasting housing solutions.
